The Clinical Nurse position provides advanced clinical leadership and coordination within the inpatient surgical unit, supporting the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centred care. The role contributes to clinical governance, workforce capability, quality improvement, and the effective coordination of care for patients with complex surgical needs.

Nurses play a pivotal role in supporting contemporary nursing practice, facilitating multidisciplinary communication, mentoring staff, and driving service improvements to ensure effective and effective healthcare delivery.
About the Team The 12A Inpatient Unit provides specialised inpatient care for children and young people requiring orthopaedic, neurosurgical, plastic surgery and ophthalmology services. The unit delivers both elective and emergency care for patients with a broad range of acute and complex healthcare needs. Working within a multidisciplinary team, the service is committed to providing safe, high-quality, family-centred care while driving innovation, quality improvement and excellence in paediatric surgical nursing practice.
About the Role The purpose of this role is to provide advanced clinical nursing expertise, leadership and care coordination for paediatric patients within the 12A Inpatient Unit.
The Clinical
Nurse works autonomously and collaboratively with the Nurse Unit Manager and multidisciplinary healthcare team to deliver safe, quality, evidence-based care for patients with complex surgical and medical needs. The role provides clinical leadership in practice, education, quality improvement and research, while contributing to service development, workforce capability and the effective operation of the unit.
Autonomy
- Advanced level of autonomous clinical and professional nursing practice.
- Provides leadership in clinical decision-making and coordinates care for patients with complex healthcare needs.
- Assumes professional leadership responsibilities for the ward or unit in the absence of the Nurse Unit Manager or delegate.
- Applies advanced clinical judgement,
critical thinking and problem-solving skills to support safe and effective patient care.
- Works collaboratively with multidisciplinary stakeholders to support clinical governance, quality improvement and service excellence.
- Supports a culture of learning, education, research and workforce development through mentoring, coaching and role modelling
