Your role as a Technical Support Officer will be responsible for accurate hydraulic scope decisions at Strip and Assess, including repair requirements, technical direction, job readiness and sign-off. The role provides a practical technical layer between the Operations Manager and Workshop Foreman, protecting profit, quality and customer outcomes. This is an exciting opportunity for a technically skilled and detail-oriented professional to support the development, maintenance, and troubleshooting of complex hydraulic systems across a range of projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Scope accuracy and Strip and Assess
- Review Strip and Assess findings and determine the correct repair or overhaul scope.
- Sign off scope decisions before work progresses to quoting, materials or production.
- Identify required parts, machining, testing, inspection and customer information.
- Ensure assumptions, exclusions, risks and technical uncertainties are clearly recorded.
- Provide confident hydraulic advice on cylinders, pumps, motors, valves, drill heads and related components.
- Resolve technical questions from the workshop and elevate engineering or customer decisions where required.
- Prevent under-scoping, unnecessary work, repeat failures and avoidable warranty exposure
Operational support and job readiness
- Work closely with the Workshop Foreman to ensure jobs are genuinely ready before labour is committed.
- Support clear handover of scope, parts, drawings, quality requirements and test criteria.
- Act as the technical link between the Operations Manager and Workshop Foreman without directly supervising staff.
Productive and chargeable work
- Complete hands-on fitting, assembly, testing, fault-finding and technical inspection as required.
- Book productive time to the jobs being scoped, assessed, supported or signed off.
- Maintain accurate job notes so technical decisions can be understood and repeated
Quality, waste reduction and knowledge transfer
- Protect the business from waste caused by poor scope, missing parts, rework, unclear instructions and incomplete testing.
- Support consistent quality hold points, inspection evidence and final test requirements.
- Share technical knowledge with tradespeople and help build practical standards, checklists and repeatable repair decisions.
- Place a technical hold on a job when scope, parts, information,
quality requirements or testing criteria are incomplete.
- Approve routine hydraulic repair scopes within delegated authority.
- Request additional inspection, measurement, testing or customer clarification.
- Escalate design changes, major commercial variations, safety-critical decisions and non-standard repairs.
About You:
- Trade-qualified fitter or equivalent extensive hydraulic service experience.
- Solid practical knowledge of hydraulic cylinders, pumps, motors, valves, drill heads, testing and fault-finding.
- Ability to interpret hydraulic schematics, mechanical drawings, measurements and technical information.
- Demonstrated ability to make sound technical decisions and explain them clearly.
- Strong communication skills and confidence working with tradespeople, supervisors, customers and management.
- Good understanding of repair quality, job readiness, cost control and the commercial impact of scope decisions.
- Basic computer literacy.
Training will be provided for customer and job-management systems.
This role may develop into planning, operations leadership, technical services management or broader operational management, depending on capability, business growth and performance.
