At Elphinstone, you’ll work on our advanced multi-axis CNC milling machine to produce complex, large-scale Defence workpieces while maintaining high tolerance on components. This role places you at the heart of key Australian Defence projects, all within our modern, state of the art manufacturing facility in Wynyard, Tasmania.

What You’ll Be Doing

- Setting up and operating our flagship large-scale 5-axis Portal Milling machine.
- Loading, aligning, and securing large-scale,



heavy fabrication workpieces (including defence and mining components).
- Monitoring machine cycles and ensuring components are manufactured to strict tolerances.
- Operating small manual milling and lathe machinery to assist production with tooling and efficiencies.
- Making minor programming adjustments and edits at the controller when required to keep production running smoothly (heavy programming is handled for you).
- Conducting quality checks on finished structures using precision measurement tools.
- Working independently while collaborating with our high-performing workshop team.

What We’re Looking For

- Experienced CNC Machine Operator with a proven track record in a structural, heavy fabrication, or precision engineering environment.
- Confident in machine setup, tooling selection, and supervising long machining cycles on large workpieces.
- Basic understanding of G-code to read, monitor, and make minor, occasional adjustments at the Siemens controller.
- Experience or familiarity with multi-axis machining (4th/5th axis) is highly regarded.
- Proficient in quality control and the use of precision measurement tools.
- High attention to detail, strong mechanical aptitude,



and a safety-first mindset.
- Experience machining armoured steel is a distinct advantage.
