Role: Control Systems Engineer
Location: Sydney/Melbourne, Australia
Type: Contract (12 Months Extendable)
Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled Control Systems Engineer to join our engineering team and support the design, development, and commissioning of industrial automation systems. The successful candidate will work on PLC, SCADA, and HMI-based control systems across various industrial environments including FMCG, process industries, and energy management systems.
This role involves working closely with project managers, engineers, and clients to deliver high-quality automation solutions from design through to installation and commissioning.
Key Responsibilities
Automation System Design & Development
- Design and develop control systems including PLC, RTU, HMI, SCADA, and industrial network systems.
- Develop PLC and SCADA applications using platforms such as Allen Bradley, Siemens, or equivalent automation systems.
- Create HMI interfaces and operator dashboards for industrial control systems.
- Interpret technical requirements and convert them into system designs and engineering solutions.
Engineering Documentation
- Prepare and maintain engineering documentation including:
- Functional Design Specifications (FDS)
- Interface Data Tables (IDT)
- IO Summaries
- Cable and termination schedules
- Develop engineering drawings and documentation using AutoCAD.
Project Delivery & Commissioning
- Support the technical delivery of automation projects including design, development, testing, and commissioning.
- Participate in installation and commissioning of PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems at customer sites.
- Perform Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT).
- Assist in troubleshooting and resolving technical issues during system implementation.
Client Engagement & Support
- Work closely with clients and project teams to understand system requirements and deliver appropriate automation solutions.
- Participate in technical discussions, project meetings, and system demonstrations.
- Provide maintenance and on-call support for deployed automation systems when required.
Site Activities
- Travel to customer locations to conduct site inspections, audits, installation support, and commissioning activities.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and company policies during site work.
Required Skills & Experience
- Degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, or Automation Engineering.
- Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on experience in industrial automation or control systems engineering.
- Experience with PLC programming (Allen Bradley, Siemens, or similar platforms).
- Experience in SCADA and HMI development using platforms such as Ignition, Wonderware, WinCC, or similar.
- Understanding of control system architecture and industrial communication networks.
- Experience preparing technical documentation including FDS, IO lists, and wiring schedules.
- Knowledge of electrical design and engineering drawings.
- Experience with AutoCAD is preferred.
Industry Experience (Preferred) Experience in one or more of the following industries is preferred:
- FMCG
- Food & Beverage / Breweries
- Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG)
- Process Industries
- Building Management Systems (BMS)
- Energy Management Systems
Additional Requirements
- Willingness to travel to customer sites for installation and commissioning activities.
- Ability to work in a project-based setting with multiple stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
Work Environment This role includes a combination of office-based engineering work and on-site project work, including system installation, commissioning, and client support.
