– Country Manager, Australia
Location: Australia (Sydney / Melbourne)
Reporting To: Head – Strategic Business Unit (SBU) Role Purpose
Lead and accelerate the company's growth in Australia by driving commercial expansion, establishing and managing local operations, developing strategic customer relationships, and ensuring regulatory and business compliance. The role carries full responsibility for country performance, including revenue growth, profitability, market access, and organizational development. Key Responsibilities
Strategic & Business Leadership
Develop and execute the Australia growth strategy aligned with SBU and corporate objectives.
Identify market opportunities, competitive dynamics, and growth drivers.
Establish the company's local presence and strengthen market positioning.
Build and maintain relationships with healthcare institutions, distributors, industry bodies, and key stakeholders. Commercial & Business Development
Deliver annual sales, market share, and profitability targets.
Expand direct hospital business and drive participation in tender opportunities.
Develop and execute strategic account plans for key customers.
Identify and evaluate recent business opportunities, partnerships, and licensing opportunities. Portfolio & Market Access
Build a sustainable product pipeline through portfolio development and in-licensing opportunities.
Drive launches of complex generics, specialty products, Day-1 launches, and differentiated products.
Partner with regulatory teams to ensure timely product registrations and approvals.
Financial Management
Own and manage the country P&L.;
Prepare annual budgets, forecasts, and business plans.
Monitor revenue, margins, operating costs, and overall business performance.
Deliver profitable and sustainable growth. Regulatory, Compliance & Governance
Ensure compliance with Australian regulatory, legal, pharmacovigilance, and corporate governance requirements.
Oversee local registrations, market authorizations, and quality compliance activities.
Act as the company’s responsible local representative where required. Team & Operations Leadership
Build, lead, and develop a high-performing local team.
Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and customer focus.
Ensure operational excellence and business continuity across country operations. Key Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Pharmacy, Business, or related field; MBA preferred.
12–15+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical or healthcare industry, with significant exposure to the Australian market.
Proven track record in country management, business development, sales leadership, and P&L; management.
Strong understanding of Australian healthcare systems, hospital business, tender processes, and regulatory environment.
Experience in portfolio strategy, product launches, and market expansion.
Excellent leadership, stakeholder management, negotiation, and communication skills.
