Newcastle City Council

Your new employer is a leading independent supplier of ready-mix concrete solutions across Newcastle, the Hunter Valley and surrounding regions. With around 70 employees, a fleet of 45 concrete trucks plus plant and equipment, and a long-standing workforce, the business has built a strong reputation for being safe, reliable, efficient and easy to deal with.

This is a practical, down-to-earth business that delivers a dirty product in heavy vehicles, so let’s call it what it is: this is not a glossy corporate office with city views and oat milk on tap. It is full enclosed shoes, safety, common sense and a team of good people who know how to get things done.

The team are proud of the work they do, and many staff have been with the business for a long time, which says a lot about the culture and the way people are treated.

This is a hands-on operational administration role with lots of variety. You will work across payroll, HR, accounts payable and accounts receivable. You will be responsible for:

- Monitoring and correcting time and attendance information through Timeminder
- Processing weekly payroll through Employment Hero and MYOB
- Supporting payroll tax, superannuation, STP and end-of-year reporting
- Assisting with accounts payable, invoice review, tax coding and account allocation
- Maintaining employee records, leave, onboarding, offboarding and HR documents
- Supporting workers compensation and return-to-work administration where required
- Providing general administration support across the business

ABOUT YOU

You are the kind of person who likes to work things out. You are organised, practical, systems-savvy and solutions-focused. You do not need someone to hold your hand through every little thing, but you are also sensible enough to ask the right questions when it matters.

This role needs someone who can learn a system, use the help tools, call the support line, watch the tutorial, dig around, figure it out and come back with a solution. Basically, if your first instinct is “I will work it out,” you will probably fit in well here.

You will bring:

- Experience in administration, payroll, accounts or operational support
- Strong Excel, Outlook and general office skills
- Confidence learning and using multiple software platforms
- Experience with MYOB or another accounting program
- Strong attention to detail, especially around payroll, compliance and records
- The ability to manage competing priorities and work independently
- A practical, proactive and solutions-focused approach
- Comfort working in an industrial, construction, mining, transport or heavy vehicle environment

If you are looking for a hands-on operational admin role, this is a excellent opportunity to step into a brilliant local business and make the role your own.
