Data Modeler – Finance Reporting

We're seeking an experienced Data Modeller / BI Consultant to join a Perth-based client on a 3-month consulting contract, continuing the design and enhancement of enterprise data models and financial reporting solutions. This is a hands-on role focused on data modelling, finance reporting and business analysis, working closely with the Finance team to shape requirements and deliver trusted, reusable data models and Power BI financial reports that support budgeting, forecasting and performance analysis.

- $900 a day + GST
- 4 days onsite – Perth based
- Opportunity to work closely with the Finance function on a high-visibility reporting programme

THE ROLE: Working closely with the Finance team, BI teams and data engineers, you will design and maintain trusted data models and Power BI reporting solutions that support budgeting, forecasting and performance analysis across the business.

Key responsibilities include:

- Engage Finance stakeholders to understand reporting, budgeting and forecasting needs and translate them into clear data and reporting requirements
- Design and maintain conceptual, logical and physical data models for finance and related domains, including dimensional models (chart of accounts, cost centres, profit centres, budgets, actuals, forecasts)
- Work with BI teams to design and refine Power BI financial reports and dashboards that are accurate, reconciled and easy for Finance users to interpret
- Ensure data definitions, business rules and mappings are clearly documented and agreed with Finance (e.g. KPI definitions, allocation rules, period/ledger logic)
- Collaborate with data engineers/BI developers to ensure data models are correctly implemented and optimised in the data warehouse/data lake
- Lead or support workshops and stakeholder sessions — eliciting requirements, validating prototypes and iterating report designs
- Support data quality and reconciliation processes,



ensuring finance reports align to source systems and statutory/management reporting requirements
- Maintain documentation for data models, data dictionaries, finance reporting logic and functional specifications

THE COMPANY: A Perth-based organisation running an active finance and data reporting function, seeking a hands-on consultant to support an established programme of data modelling and financial reporting work in close partnership with Finance.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

- Strong experience as a Data Modeller or BI Consultant working in finance or corporate reporting environments
- Proven background working closely with Finance teams (e.g. CFO, Financial Controllers, Management Accountants) to deliver financial and management reports
- Solid experience designing Power BI financial reports and dashboards, including measures, hierarchies and drill-downs relevant to Finance
- Deep understanding of data modelling: conceptual/logical/physical, dimensional/star schemas, and how they support finance and performance reporting
- Good knowledge of Microsoft data and BI tools (Power BI, SQL-based data warehouses; exposure to Microsoft Fabric advantageous)
- Business analysis skills — requirements elicitation, process understanding, translating business questions into data and reporting specifications, and writing explicit functional documentation
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, able to explain data and reporting concepts to both technical teams and non-technical Finance users
- High attention to detail, particularly around numbers, reconciliations and financial logic, with a customer-centric, delivery-focused mindset
- (Low-level development areas such as Python coding, CI/CD pipelines and API engineering are not core requirements for this role.)
