About the role
Xtreme Contracting NT Pty Ltd is seeking a skilled and experienced Diesel Mechanic to join our team in Knuckey Lagoon, NT. This is a full-time position (after 3 month probation period) based on-site at our Knuckey Lagoon facility. As a Diesel Mechanic, you will be responsible for diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing diesel-powered vehicles and equipment.
This role is strategically important to our operations, ensuring that our fleet remains in optimal working condition to support our contracting projects and business objectives.
Key responsibilities
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults in diesel engines and related systems using diagnostic tools and technical knowledge
- Perform routine maintenance tasks including oil changes, filter replacements, fluid checks, and belt inspections
- Repair and replace faulty components including engines, transmissions, fuel systems, cooling systems, and hydraulic systems
- Conduct thorough inspections of vehicles and equipment to identify potential issues and safety concerns
- Maintain accurate service records and documentation of all work completed
- Ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with relevant regulations and standards
- Liaise with team members and management to prioritise repairs and maintenance schedules
- Keep abreast of industry developments and best practices in diesel mechanics
What we're looking for Formal qualifications or certification in diesel mechanics or automotive engineering
- Minimum of 3 years' practical experience working as a diesel mechanic in a commercial or contracting environment
- Strong knowledge of diesel engine systems, fuel injection systems, and related hydraulic and electrical components
- Proficiency in using diagnostic equipment and mechanical tools
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose complex mechanical issues
- Sound understanding of health and safety regulations and workplace procedures
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Reliability and strong attention to detail
- Valid driver's licence (non negotiable)
- Previous experience in the resources, mining, or contracting sector is advantageous
