1. Role Purpose and Overview The QLD Drafting & Design Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the end-to-end drafting process for Queensland concrete projects, ensuring efficient communication and workflow between Sales, Engineering, Operations, Manufacturing and Atlan's overseas CAD drafting resources.
The role manages drawing priorities, allocates drafting work, monitors project progress and ensures drawings are completed accurately, on time and in accordance with Australian Standards, Atlan drafting standards and customer requirements.
The position acts as the primary liaison between internal stakeholders and the overseas drafting team, ensuring information is complete, technical queries are resolved promptly and manufacturing documentation is delivered to support production schedules.
2. Key Deliverables, Duties and Responsibilities
Drafting Coordination
- Coordinate all drafting requests received from Sales, Estimating, Engineering and Operations.
- Review incoming projects to ensure all required information has been received before allocating drafting work.
- Allocate drafting work to overseas CAD resources based on project priority, workload and delivery requirements.
- Monitor drafting progress and proactively manage workloads to ensure project deadlines are achieved.
- Maintain a live drawing schedule and provide regular updates to stakeholders.
- Coordinate drawing revisions and ensure changes are communicated efficiently to all parties.
Stakeholder Management
- Act as the primary point of contact between Sales, Engineering, Operations, Manufacturing and overseas drafting resources.
- Clarify technical queries raised by CAD designers before drawings are issued.
- Liaise with production personnel to ensure drawings are practical, manufacturable and aligned with production capabilities.
- Coordinate project handovers from Sales to Manufacturing through the drafting process.
- Attend production planning and project review meetings as required.
Drawing Quality
- Conduct first-level reviews of completed drawings for:
- completeness
- dimensional accuracy
- reinforcement detailing
- lifting details
- embedded items
- openings
- revision control
- compliance with Atlan drafting standards
- Ensure drawings comply with applicable Australian Standards and internal quality requirements before submission for approval.
- Escalate complex technical issues to the National Concrete Drafting Manager or Engineering.
Document Control
- Maintain drawing registers and document control systems.
- Ensure drawing revisions are accurately recorded and distributed.
- Maintain CAD libraries, templates and standard drawing details.
- Ensure correct file naming conventions and version control are maintained.
Workflow Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve drafting efficiency and reduce drawing turnaround times.
- Assist with the development of drafting procedures, templates and standardisation.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across drafting and manufacturing.
- Monitor drafting KPIs including turnaround time, revision rates and drawing quality.
Customer Support
- Coordinate drawing issue dates with Sales and Project Delivery.
- Assist with preliminary layouts and concept drawings during quotation stages.
- Coordinate client drawing revisions and approvals where required.
3. Experience and Qualifications Required
- Minimum 5 years' experience in drafting coordination or CAD drafting within precast concrete, civil or structural construction.
- Demonstrated experience coordinating multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong AutoCAD knowledge.
- Sound understanding of precast concrete detailing and manufacturing processes.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and structural documentation.
- Experience working with offshore drafting teams is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of document control and drawing revision management.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Current driver's licence.

7. Delegated Authority The incumbent is authorised to:
- Prioritise drafting workload in accordance with business priorities.
- Allocate work to overseas drafting resources.
- Return incomplete project information to stakeholders for clarification.
- Coordinate drawing revisions and document control.
- Recommend process improvements to drafting systems and workflows.
The incumbent is not authorised to:
- Approve engineering design changes.
- Deviate from approved engineering standards.
- Issue final engineering approvals where certification is required.
