About the Role The Aboriginal Health & Medical Research Council of NSW (AH&MRC;) is seeking a passionate and culturally grounded Educator – Elder Care to support the development of a skilled, culturally safe and capable Aboriginal Elder Care workforce across NSW.

This role provides education, mentoring, assessment support and workforce development activities that strengthen learner engagement, cultural safety and workforce readiness within Elder Care training pathways. The Educator – Elder Care will work closely with learners, trainees, educators, Aboriginal communities and workforce partners to support successful learning outcomes and contribute to the growth of culturally responsive Elder Care services.

The role combines learner support, cultural mentoring, workforce development and community engagement, ensuring Aboriginal learners are supported throughout their education journey and are equipped to thrive within Elder Care settings.

Responsibilities

- Provide culturally safe mentoring, guidance and support to Aboriginal learners participating in Elder Care training programs.
- Support learners to navigate training requirements, workplace expectations and career pathways within the Elder Care sector.
- Monitor learner engagement, progress and participation, identifying and responding to support needs as appropriate.
- Assist trainees through learning and assessment activities in accordance with organisational requirements and delegated responsibilities.
- Work collaboratively with educators, assessors and training staff to support learner success and completion outcomes.




- Provide cultural mentoring and advice to educators, assessors and staff to strengthen culturally responsive teaching and assessment practices.
- Support the development of culturally safe learning environments and contribute to staff cultural capability initiatives.
- Share knowledge of Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs), community priorities and workforce realities relevant to Elder Care.
- Contribute to workforce development initiatives that strengthen Aboriginal participation and career pathways in the Elder Care sector.
- Support engagement with Aboriginal communities, ACCHOs and workforce partners to promote collaboration and workforce development opportunities.
- Participate in Elder Care forums, conferences and sector events to strengthen partnerships and share best practice.
- Contribute to the development and review of learning resources, educational materials and workforce development initiatives.
- Support culturally safe feedback processes and contribute to continuous improvement activities.
- Maintain accurate records, reports and documentation in accordance with organisational and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications and Experience

- Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal communities and organisations.
- Experience supporting Aboriginal learners, trainees,



workforce development programs, education, health, aged care or community services initiatives.
- Understanding of culturally safe practice and Aboriginal ways of learning.
- Experience facilitating learning, mentoring, coaching or workforce development activities is highly desirable.
- Experience working within vocational education and training (VET), community services, health or aged care settings is desirable.
- Current Working with Children Check and National Police Check.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

- Solid communication, mentoring and relationship-building skills.
- Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with Aboriginal learners, communities and stakeholders.
- Knowledge of Aboriginal Community Controlled Health sector practices and Elder Care workforce priorities.
- Ability to support learners, trainees and staff in culturally safe and respectful ways.
- Strong facilitation, listening, coaching and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to identify learner support needs and facilitate appropriate referrals when required.
- Experience contributing to workforce development, community engagement or education initiatives.
- Strong organisational and record-keeping skills.
- Understanding of vocational education and training environments is desirable.
- Commitment to Aboriginal community control, self-determination and culturally safe practice.
