About Premium Grain Handlers
Premium Grain Handlers is one of Western Australia’s leading container-based grain exporters.
We accumulate, handle and export oats, wheat, barley, lupins and specialty grains to customers across Asia and other international markets.
Our business is built on reliable execution, robust customer relationships and close coordination between our commercial, shipping, documentation, quality and operations teams.
As our export volumes continue to grow, we are seeking an experienced Export Shipping Coordinator to strengthen our day-to-day shipping execution capability.
About the Role
This is a hands-on shipping role responsible for coordinating containerised export shipments from booking through to completion.
You will make vessel bookings, align shipment schedules with our operations and packing programs, manage shipping-line requirements and ensure PGH meets its contractual shipment commitments.
You will work closely with our Fremantle operations team and become the main day-to-day contact when shipping plans change or execution issues arise. This may include responding to vessel delays, rejected PRAs, threatened cut-offs, booking changes, container shortages or shipments that need to be moved or rolled.
We are looking for someone who understands the full export process, can see problems developing before they become urgent and appreciates how execution decisions affect cost, margin and customer outcomes.
This role requires exceptional attention to detail and prior hands-on experience in containerised export shipping. Applicants without practical experience in vessel bookings, PRAs, forwarding instructions and export documentation are unlikely to be suitable.
Key Responsibilities
- Make container and vessel bookings with shipping lines.
- Coordinate bookings with packing programs, container availability and vessel cut-offs.
- Maintain the shipping schedule and ensure shipments remain aligned with contractual commitments.
- Work closely with operations to manage packing delays and changing shipment priorities.
- Resolve routine execution issues including vessel delays, rejected PRAs, booking amendments and rolled shipments.
- Liaise with shipping lines, freight forwarders, terminals, transport providers and internal teams.
- Coordinate documentation requirements with PGH’s documentation team.
- Assist with bills of lading, bill splits, commercial documents, phytosanitary certificates and quality paperwork.
- Monitor and minimise avoidable execution costs such as detention, demurrage, storage, roll charges and document amendment fees.
What You’ll Bring
- Experience in export shipping, freight forwarding, shipping-line operations, international logistics or containerised exports.
- Strong attention to detail and a high standard of accuracy.
- A practical understanding of the end-to-end container export process.
- Experience with vessel bookings, shipping schedules, cut-offs and shipping-line portals.
- The ability to manage multiple shipments and changing deadlines.
- Strong commercial awareness and an understanding of where delays and errors create cost.
- The confidence to work closely with operational teams and external providers.
- Solid Excel and general computer skills.
Experience in grain, agricultural commodities,
food exports or other regulated export products would be highly regarded.
Additional Asian language skills, particularly Mandarin or Indonesian, would be advantageous but are not essential.
The Person We Are Looking For
You will be someone who takes ownership of shipment outcomes rather than simply completing your part of the process.
You will be highly accurate, organised and calm under pressure. You will understand how bookings, operations, shipping lines and documentation fit together, and you will be able to respond quickly when circumstances change.
Why Join PGH?
- Join an established and growing Western Australian export business.
- Take ownership of real shipment execution and operational outcomes.
- Work closely with experienced shipping, commercial and operations teams.
- Gain broad exposure to international freight, export documentation and commodity logistics.
- Work in a practical environment where initiative and commercial judgement are valued.
- Fremantle-based, full-time role with normal business hours.
How to Apply
Please submit your CV together with a brief response addressing the following:
- Describe your direct experience managing container export bookings, vessel cut-offs and shipment execution.
- Which of the following have you personally managed: PRAs, forwarding instructions, bills of lading, booking rolls, detention, demurrage or shipping-line amendments?
- In no more than 150 words, describe a shipment execution problem you personally resolved. Explain what happened, what action you took and the outcome.
Generic cover letters are not required. Applications that do not demonstrate practical container export experience may not be considered.
Please note that PGH is managing this recruitment process directly. Applications or approaches from recruitment agencies will not be considered.
