Allygroup is seeking multiple Special Counsel/Partner-level Administrative Lawyers to support a large Commonwealth Agency's legal function.
Successful candidates may be assigned to a range of legal work areas, subject to operational requirements and business priorities. The ideal candidates will have experience providing legal advice on legislation administered and/or delivered by government agencies. Experience advising on social services, health, regulatory matters, or similar government programs will be highly regarded.
These are secondment opportunities for an initial six-month term, with the possibility of two extension options, subject to business requirements and performance.
Responsibilities:
Provide specialist legal advice to internal stakeholders.
Support, mentor and train staff to build knowledge and capability.
Manage a caseload of legal matters.
Provide legal and practical assistance in the development of policies, processes and procedures.
Prepare draft written material, including submissions, reports, briefs and instructions for external legal providers.
Review and provide advice on legislative proposals, including drafting instructions and draft legislation.
Develop, maintain and support effective stakeholder relationships.
Contribute to projects, reform activities and business improvement initiatives.
Undertake quality assurance activities to ensure compliance with relevant procedures and guidelines.
Identify and implement process improvements and promote best practice approaches.
Perform administrative duties, including records and information management, database management and document retrieval.
Skills and Knowledge:
Excellent written communication skills, including the preparation of legal advice, briefs and other professional documents.
Strong knowledge of administrative law principles and practice.
Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, procedures and information management requirements.
Understanding of government programs, services and administrative decision-making frameworks.
Strong analytical, research and problem-solving skills.
Ability to exercise sound judgement and provide practical, risk-informed advice.
Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality outcomes.
Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic setting.
Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.
Understanding of privacy, ethics, workplace health and safety, security and governance requirements relevant to government environments.
