Our values are at the heart of everything we do: Authentic | Fun | Team | Excellence.
About the Role
SANFL is seeking a Finance Manager – SANFL Clubs to join the Shared Services Finance team, providing practical, accurate and commercially focused financial management support to allocated SANFL clubs. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys partnering with senior leaders, turning financial information into meaningful insights, and helping drive informed decision-making across football operations, business activities and licensed venues.
Working closely with Club CEOs, Finance Committees, Boards and key stakeholders, you will play an important role in strengthening financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, governance, systems and controls across the SANFL club network.
This is a hands-on and influential role, combining technical finance capability with genuine business partnering. You will need to be comfortable working across multiple stakeholders, managing competing priorities and providing financial reporting that is clear, practical and aligned to the realities of club operations.
What you will be doing:
- Lead month-end processes, including account reviews, journals, general ledger maintenance,
balance sheet reconciliations and monthly reporting with written commentary.
- Prepare and maintain monthly management reporting for relevant SANFL club CEOs, Finance Committees and Boards.
- Coordinate and facilitate annual budgeting processes for SANFL clubs, including validation of assumptions, risk assessment and financial planning.
- Support forecasting activity, including dynamic three to five-year financial models and business cases to support investment decisions.
- Partner with Club CEOs and key staff to identify variances, maintain forecasts and provide practical financial insights.
- Lead, train and support bookkeeping and accounting support services to ensure accurate and timely service delivery.
- Support annual audit preparation and act as a key contact for auditors during year-end processes.
- Manage financial and operational benchmarking across SANFL clubs, including football club and licensed venue activity.
- Review and improve club finance governance documents, including delegations of authority, management reporting, balance sheet reconciliations, cashflow forecasting and payroll approval processes.
- Identify and implement best-practice systems and technologies, including Xero and related add-ons, to improve efficiency, reporting and controls.
About You
You will be a capable and credible finance professional who enjoys working with people as much as working with numbers. You are likely to bring strong financial and management accounting experience, sound commercial judgement and the confidence to communicate financial information clearly to non-financial audiences.
You will also bring a collaborative style, high attention to detail and a willingness to improve systems, processes and controls.
To be successful you will bring:
- A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or a related discipline.
- CA or CPA qualification.
- Strong financial and management accounting capability, including month-end reporting, reconciliations, budgeting and forecasting.
- Experience providing professional financial and management accounting advice.
- Experience leading budgeting, forecasting and longer-term financial planning.
- Experience using Xero or a similar cloud-based accounting system.
- Advanced Excel skills and confidence using Microsoft Office products.
- The ability to analyse financial information, identify trends, assess risks and provide clear, practical advice.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills, including the ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-financial audiences.
- Proven ability to lead, mentor or develop team members.
- Experience in accounting for a sporting club or licensed premises would be highly regarded.
What We Offer
- A meaningful role in the South Australian football industry.
- The opportunity to work closely with SANFL clubs and senior stakeholders.
- A varied role spanning reporting, forecasting, governance, systems, audit, benchmarking and business partnering.
