The Role:
We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Financial Controller with a strong background in startups. This role will be pivotal in managing our financial operations, ensuring compliance across multiple jurisdictions, and driving financial transparency and discipline within the organization. In addition to traditional financial management, you will also take on limited operational tasks, such as company registration, essential to our growth (<10% of role).
The Financial Controller is a full-time, permanent role. The position is based in our Sydney office, with flexible hybrid working arrangements available.
What you’ll be doing:
Financial Oversight:
- Manage budgeting, forecasting,
and financial reporting process with leadership stakeholders.
- Develop and manage a cash management strategy.
- Manage sales tax strategy and operations for key markets: Australia, UK, USA and EU.
- Identify opportunities to implement new finance processes, enhance existing ones, and foster a smart spending culture across the organization.
Strategic Analysis & Reporting:
- Refine systems to categorize, track and analyze spend and revenue across key dimensions (e.g. function, business line, geography, etc.) to drive deeper financial insights.
- Provide insightful financial analysis to support decision-making and business strategy.
- Manage investor financial reporting submissions
Financial Operations:
- Manage daily accounting operations and cash management.
- Ensure adherence to local and international accounting standards.
- Manage financial submissions to regulatory bodies including tax filings.
Global Financial Management:
- Oversee financial consolidation and reporting for operations across multiple countries.
- Coordinate with external accounting firms and auditors and manage relationships with financial institutions.
Leadership Team Collaboration:
- Partner with the leadership team to implement financial processes and support strategic decision-making.
Team Leadership:
- Serve as a “Finance Team of 1” in the near term
- Build, lead and develop a finance team over that time that supports our dynamic business, spread across 5 continents and 15 countries, ensuring effective communication and collaboration across diverse cultures.
Operational Tasks:
- Handle operational responsibilities, including company registration, vendor management, insurance coverage and compliance with legal requirements. These tasks will represent less than 10% of the role.
What you’ll need:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA/CA registration.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a financial management role, ideally within a startup or high-growth environment, with a robust track record in hands-on execution
- Demonstrated experience working with international teams across many timezones and managing multi-jurisdictional financial operations.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial regulations, and international financial reporting standards.
- Proven ability and enthusiasm for operating in an unstructured environment and building a finance function from the ground up.
- Willingness and ability to handle operational tasks alongside core financial responsibilities.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in financial software (Xero) and ERP systems.

- Experience working with diverse, global teams and managing multi-currency, cross-border transactions.
