CapitalCurve builds the operating function for growth-stage businesses - across growth, strategy and ops, and finance. We embed rather than advise. An Operating Partner, a senior operator who has run the function at scale, leads. A Forward Deployed Engineer builds what’s needed. The Operating Partner identifies what is broken. The engineer installs the fix, on the client’s live systems.

Our clients are founders and operators running businesses between $20m and $1bn+ in revenue, most of them in Australia, with the US and UK trickling in. You will work with them directly, in their systems and in the room when the decisions get made.

About the role

Every engagement starts with a diagnostic that finds where a business is losing money, time, or visibility. What we sell is the fix, not the finding.

You build what comes out of it: the integrations across the ERP, CRM, ledger and whatever else the business already runs on; the warehouse underneath when the data has nowhere to live; agents that reconcile transactions, track projects and inventory, and assemble the reporting that used to take a person three days - landing in an inbox on Monday morning, not a dashboard nobody opens.

The shape of the build changes every time. The pattern doesn’t. The Operating Partner sets the policy: priorities, thresholds, decision rights. You connect, codify and test. The system watches and prepares. A named person in the business approves the action.

The common thread is not finance. It is a business running something manually, at volume, with rules that can be written down and consequences that have to be right.

Working at the frontier

Deploying models where being wrong is expensive is an unsolved problem, and a large share of the work sits here.



We work across providers rather than inside one, open-weight models included, and choosing which model handles which decision is an engineering call you will make and defend with evidence.

We fine-tune task-specific models where general ones are not accurate enough on a client’s data, and use reinforcement learning where the reward signal is real: whether the decision survived review. You will build the evaluation infrastructure that decides when a model is trusted, and the training loops that close the gap when it is not. Models never act directly. Every consequence is deterministic code, released by a human.

The models are the interesting part. The production system is the job.

What the role compounds into

Agentic deployment into live operating environments is early, and few people in Australia are doing it with money at stake, you’ll be working at the frontier as your implementations will pave the way for how all future engineers in the space deploy model technology.

You will also work directly with some of the most successful founders and operators in the country, with your name on the work. That access is normally reserved for people fifteen years further into a career.

What we’re looking for

We care about how you think, not what you studied. Maths, physics, engineering, actuarial, economics, or nothing formal at all.

- Strong quantitative reasoning.



You are comfortable being handed a messy problem with no clear method and working out what is actually true.
- Real coding ability in Python or TypeScript. You have built something non-trivial and can defend the decisions in it
- Interest in models as engineering material. You have opinions about where they fail and how you would know
- Genuine interest in how businesses make money. You want to know why a number is what it is
- Precision. This code touches live systems, so the instinct to ask what happens if it runs twice matters more than speed
- Client-facing confidence. You will present your own work to founders and operators
- Building outside your career, whether it be the gym, sailing, fashion, baking, something unheard of - we want to hear about how you dedicate your time to succeed in your chosen endeavors.
- Based in Australia with full work rights

Useful, not required: SQL, evaluation and structured output tooling, experience fine-tuning or training models, Docker, exposure to finance or operations. We are open to solid graduates or nearly graduating students. The bar is judgment and rigour, not years.

Details

Sydney, hybrid, with a mix of time in the office and on client site. Full time preferred, and we will consider a fractional arrangement for the right person. Reports to the Founding Forward Deployed Engineer.

Remuneration is base plus bonus that is competitive and above market rate.
