This is a hands on, mid level software engineering role.

You are currently based in Sydney, or are able to commute reliably to our Sydney office five days per week.
You have current Australian working rights.
You have at least 4 years of professional commercial software development experience.
TypeScript or JavaScript is your primary professional programming language.
You have recent commercial experience with Node.js and Express.js or NestJS.
You have recent commercial experience with React or Next.js.
You have experience developing and maintaining REST APIs, databases, authentication systems and third party integrations.
You have practical experience deploying and supporting production applications in AWS.
You are comfortable working across both back end and front end development.
You have experience taking ownership of an existing application or unfamiliar codebase.
This role is not suitable for graduate developers, front end only developers, data analysts, project managers, candidates seeking a fully remote position, or applicants without commercial TypeScript and Node.js experience.

We are looking for a capable and motivated Full Stack Engineer who can take ownership of existing applications and contribute to the development of new secure, reliable and maintainable products. About the role
You will work across the full application lifecycle, from understanding business requirements and reviewing existing codebases, through to development, testing, deployment and production support.
This is a role for an engineer who is comfortable investigating problems independently, working through complex business logic and taking responsibility for delivering complete solutions.
Your strongest skills may be in back end development, but you must also be comfortable implementing and maintaining front end functionality.
You will collaborate with software engineers, IT, project management, UX and UI designers and client stakeholders. Key responsibilities
Develop and maintain full stack web applications using TypeScript, Node.js and React based technologies.
Take ownership of existing software products following a structured technical handover.
Review unfamiliar codebases, diagnose issues and implement maintainable solutions.
Design, develop and maintain REST APIs, authentication systems, data models and third party integrations.
Implement complex business logic, calculations, validation rules,
permissions and workflow automation.
Build responsive and accessible user interfaces from established UX and UI designs.
Integrate AI and large language model services into practical business applications.
Develop document processing, contextual retrieval, Retrieval Augmented Generation and structured output capabilities.
Improve AI generated outputs for relevance, accuracy, consistency and reduced duplication.
Integrate applications with third party APIs, webhooks, Microsoft 365 and enterprise systems.
Support automated testing, deployment, monitoring, troubleshooting and production releases.
Maintain clear technical documentation, including README files, architecture notes, technical decisions and deployment instructions.
Communicate technical decisions, risks, limitations and dependencies clearly to both technical and non technical stakeholders. Mandatory technical experienceTypeScript and JavaScript
Strong qualified experience using TypeScript or JavaScript as a primary programming language.
You should be able to debug issues across multiple application layers, understand unfamiliar code and identify the underlying cause of technical problems. Back end development
Commercial experience with Node.js and Express.js or NestJS.
You must be comfortable designing and maintaining:
REST APIs
Authentication and authorisation systems
Data models
Third party integrations
Business logic
Calculations and validation rules
Complex conditional workflows
Error handling and production troubleshooting Front end development
Commercial experience with React or Next.js.
You must be able to implement responsive, accessible and maintainable interfaces from established designs.
You should understand component architecture, state management, API integration, form validation, error handling and cross device behaviour. Databases
Hands on experience with MongoDB or another non relational database.
You should be able to design structured and maintainable data models.
Experience with relational databases and SQL is advantageous. AWS and production delivery
Practical experience deploying, maintaining and supporting production applications in AWS.
You should understand
Source control and branching practices

Logging and monitoring
Troubleshooting
Backup and recovery
Secure cloud configuration AI and LLM integration
Experience integrating AI or large language model services through APIs.
You should have a practical understanding of:

Improving relevance, accuracy and consistency
Experience with embeddings, vector databases, AI agents or MCP integrations is highly regarded. Software quality and documentation
You should have a practical approach to automated testing, code reviews, debugging and software quality.
You must be able to document your work clearly enough for another engineer to understand, maintain and extend it. Security expectations

Security awareness must be part of how you design, develop, test and review software.
You should understand the fundamentals of:
Authentication and role based access control
Secure API design
Data privacy and appropriate handling of sensitive information
Encryption in transit and at rest
Secrets and credential management
Logging and auditability
Dependency and vulnerability management
Secure cloud configuration
Backup and recovery
Incident response
Deep cybersecurity specialisation is not required, but experience with OWASP, ISO or NIST practices is advantageous. Highly regarded experience

NDIS, disability services, healthcare or regulated industries
Retrieval Augmented Generation
Embeddings and vector databases
