Specialist Domestic and Family Violence Caseworker

Gunida Gunyah Aboriginal Corporation (GGAC) is seeking experienced, professional and highly capable Specialist Domestic and Family Violence Caseworkers to join our growing team.

This is not a general support worker role. It is a specialist case management position requiring professional judgement, critical thinking, accountability and the ability to make evidence-based decisions that directly impact the safety of women and children experiencing domestic and family violence.

We are looking for practitioners who understand that domestic and family violence is a serious crime with potentially fatal consequences. This role requires more than compassion - it requires the ability to undertake comprehensive risk assessments, develop effective safety plans, challenge risk where necessary, advocate across complex service systems and actively coordinate interventions that reduce harm and achieve long-term outcomes.

The Role:

As a Specialist Domestic and Family Violence Caseworker, you will provide specialist, trauma-informed and evidence-based case management to women and children experiencing or escaping domestic and family violence.

This is not a general support worker role. It is a professional case management position requiring critical thinking, sound judgement and the ability to assess, manage and respond to complex and often high-risk situations. You will be expected to make evidence-based decisions that prioritise client safety, reduce risk and support long-term,



sustainable outcomes.

You will undertake comprehensive risk assessments, develop and review safety plans, complete detailed case planning, coordinate referrals, advocate across housing, legal, health and government systems, and actively progress client goals through purposeful, outcomes-focused case management. This is a role for practitioners who follow through - referrals are not simply made; they are actively coordinated, monitored and progressed.

You will maintain accurate and timely documentation, complete risk assessments and case records within required timeframes, and ensure all work meets legislative, contractual and organisational standards. Strong professional boundaries, accountability and the ability to have honest conversations about risk, safety and realistic expectations are essential.

The role also involves supporting the day-to-day operation of crisis accommodation, including responding to incidents, participating in shift handovers, completing accommodation inspections and unit turnarounds, facilitating wellbeing and community activities, and working collaboratively with internal teams and external agencies to achieve the best possible outcomes for women and children.

Qualifications, Experience & Requirements:

- Qualifications in Social Work, Community Services, Human Services, Psychology, Welfare or a related discipline, or equivalent demonstrated experience.
- Demonstrated experience working with women and children experiencing domestic and family violence.
- Sound understanding of trauma-informed practice, coercive control, risk assessment, safety planning and case management.
- Ability to work respectfully and effectively with Aboriginal people, families and communities,



and people from diverse cultural backgrounds using culturally safe and inclusive practices.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Commitment to culturally protected, trauma-informed and evidence-based practice.
- Confidence and willingness to transport women and children as part of the role.
- Current NSW Working with Children Check (WWCC), or ability to obtain.
- Current National Police Check, or willingness to obtain.
- Current First Aid and CPR Certificate, or willingness to obtain.
- Evidence of the right to work in Australia.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries, confidentiality and sound skilled judgement.
- Willingness to undertake regular travel, ongoing professional development, supervision and, if required, participate in an after-hours on-call roster.
