About the Role:
We’re looking for an experienced General Manager, Event Partnerships for a 12-month parental leave cover role to lead our major events portfolio and drive strategic partnerships that create meaningful outcomes for the Gold Coast.
Reporting to the Head of Growth & Partnerships, you will lead the strategic direction, performance, and ongoing development of Experience Gold Coast’s Event Partnerships Program and major events portfolio.
As a senior leader within Experience Gold Coast, you will identify and secure strategic event opportunities, oversee complex partnerships and investment decisions, and build trusted relationships across government, industry, and the events sector.
Leading a high-performing Event Partnerships team, you will provide commercial and strategic expertise to maximise the value of our event investments and strengthen the Gold Coast’s reputation as a leading major events destination.
What You’ll Do:
- Lead the strategic direction and performance of Experience Gold Coast’s Event Partnerships Program and major events portfolio.
- Identify, attract, and secure high-value events that align with organisational priorities and deliver meaningful outcomes for the Gold Coast.
- Oversee complex negotiations, funding agreements, commercial partnerships, and investment arrangements.
- Develop evidence-based investment recommendations, business cases, and strategic advice for Executive Leadership and key stakeholders.
- Success in this role depends on an exceptional ability to build trust and influence. You will already have established relationships across the events industry and be recognised as someone who can bring partners together, navigate complexity and open doors that others can't
- Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing Event Partnerships team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Partner across Experience Gold Coast to maximise the marketing, commercial, destination, and community value generated from supported events.
- Monitor portfolio performance, investment outcomes, and emerging opportunities to continuously strengthen the Gold Coast’s events offering.
- Provide strategic advice and recommendations to senior leaders regarding portfolio priorities, investment opportunities, and industry trends.
What You’ll Bring:
- This is not a step-up prospect. We're seeking a proven executive who has successfully led major event portfolios, negotiated nationally significant partnerships and can demonstrate a track record of delivering measurable outcomes.
- Established networks and credibility across the major events ecosystem, including event owners, rights holders, promoters, government, venues, sporting organisations and commercial partners.
- Strategic portfolio leadership, with demonstrated success attracting, growing and managing major events and investment programs that deliver economic, destination and commercial outcomes.
- Extensive experience negotiating complex commercial agreements, funding arrangements, and stakeholder partnerships.
- Strong commercial and financial acumen,
with the ability to identify commercial opportunities, unlock strategic partnerships, evaluate investment decisions and maximise return on public investment.
- Recognised for building trusted, long-term relationships that create opportunities, influence outcomes and deliver strategic value.
- Experience leading high-performing teams, developing leaders and driving strategic growth, change, and continuous improvement.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in business, event management, tourism, commerce, marketing, or a related discipline are desirable.
