About the Department The Sustainability, Climate & Strategy Division helps build the strategic policy capability of the agriculture, fisheries and forestry portfolio by facilitating creative problem solving, new ways of working, policy development on cross-cutting uses and data capability to drive the achievement of the department's purpose, objectives, and priorities. We develop strategic products with a portfolio-wide lens considering whole-of-government priorities for the Executive Board, Leadership Team, and our Minister.

The section is delivering the government's transition plan to phase out live sheep exports by sea.

This is a high-profile, fast-paced, multi-dimensional public policy and program space. We are a small collaborative team that values critical thinking and individual expertise/experience when solving complex challenges. We embrace flexible work arrangements and have team members working from Canberra and remotely.

Key Duties

This is a fast-paced, interesting and challenging area of policy and program work with a high public profile and a large degree of external scrutiny.

- undertaking grants assessment,
- supporting grants hub reporting and processes,
- providing advice on grant agreement reports and compliance,
- contributing to data collection and evaluation processes,
- conducting research and analysis activities in support of low value procurement, program development and implementation
- developing and managing governance systems including project plans, risk registers, evaluation reporting, managing contract and service agreements and ensuring compliance
- preparing briefings, minutes, and correspondence for ministerial and executive decision-making.

Skills and capabilities

Our ideal candidate can collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders across multiple groups to achieve outcomes, often to challenging deadlines. You are self-motivated, demonstrating initiative, adaptability and problem-solving abilities with sound written skills.

Desirable qualifications

Qualifications in relevant disciplines may be an advantage, including (but not limited to): agriculture; economics; public policy; business; change management or project management.

Eligibility and other requirements

Citizenship - To be eligible for employment with the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry you must be an Australian citizen.

Security Clearance - This position requires a Baseline Vetting security clearance. You will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
