Location: TIR includes multiple sites in TAS - Head Office (Launceston), IFP & Brighton

Applications close: 30 August 2026

Tasmanian Independent Retailers (TIR) is the retailer-owned co-operative behind IGA Tasmania and Island Fresh Produce (IFP) — supporting our members with everything from supplier trading and advertising to pricing, promotions and business growth. We're proudly Tasmanian, proudly member-owned, and proudly recognised as a 2025 Employer of Choice.

Tasmanian Independent Retailers (TIR) is looking for an experienced retail operations leader to join our team as Head of Member Services, on a full-time, permanent basis. Reporting directly to the CEO, and leading our Area Manager and Development Team functions, you'll be the key link between our members, our field teams and the wider TIR business — ensuring independent retailers across Tasmania get practical, coordinated support that helps them run stronger stores.

Key Responsibilities:

- Lead, coach and support our Area Manager team to provide consistent, practical and trusted support to members across the state

- Mentor and grow the capability of our Area Manager team, with the prospect to help build their skills toward future Business Development Manager roles

- Lead the Development Team on store refits, renovations, equipment, signage and new store projects

- Act as the primary escalation point for member service matters requiring senior judgement, coordination or CEO awareness

- Oversee the Operational Excellence Program and Food Safety Audit performance across the IGA network, including OEP Silver minimum and FSA 85% minimum compliance

- Oversee retailer growth and sustainability initiatives, including IGA Training Academy and REFSS support, and prioritise fresh food category performance across the network

- Coordinate support across Member Services, Development, Merchandise, IT, Finance, SIW and Metcash to deliver one aligned TIR support function

- Support the CEO with clear advice on member issues, network risks, development opportunities and matters requiring Board consideration

- Use reporting, dashboards and field intelligence to identify trends, emerging risks and opportunities to improve member outcomes

- Build trusted relationships with independent retailers, maintaining appropriate confidentiality and professional neutrality

- Contribute to and manage budgets relevant to the Member Services and Development functions

About You:

- Strong understanding of independent retail, supermarket operations and member-based business models

- Demonstrated ability to lead field-based teams and technical support functions

- Commercial judgement and the ability to balance member support, brand protection, risk management and practical business outcomes

- Financial acumen, including budget management and reporting, and strategic planning skills at a leadership-team level

- Strong relationship skills, including listening, discretion, confidentiality and professional neutrality

- Strong understanding of business development principles, with the ability to lead by example and mentor others in this space

- Ability to interpret operational data, audit results and dashboard trends to guide action

- Project coordination capability, particularly in store development, renovations, signage or retail improvement activity

- Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to brief the CEO and prepare decision-ready information

- Strong, proven leadership skills

- Current driver's licence, with willingness to travel across Tasmania

Culture and Benefits:

- Flexible working environment

- Company laptop

- Car or car allowance (to be discussed at interview)

- Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

- Access to St Lukes corporate discount cover

- Proudly recognised as a 2025 Employer of Choice
