About the role

Flagship Pioneering, Inc. is seeking a contract Associate Scientist or Scientist I to join our Translational Biology team at Mirai Bio. This role is pivotal in conducting in vivo laboratory research aimed at propelling forward groundbreaking technologies in genomic medicine. The successful candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of in vivo laboratory protocols and will bring substantial hands‑on experience with rodent techniques as well as molecular biology assays.

What you'll do

- Design and execute in vivo experiments utilizing mouse models to assess the pharmacokinetics and biodistribution of creative formulations, taking on greater responsibility for the design and analysis of these studies.
- Administer various doses to mice through multiple routes and manage the isolation and processing of blood and tissues from these animals.
- Develop and refine in vivo models, including humanized mouse systems and tumor models, while incorporating advanced imaging techniques.
- Enhance laboratory protocols such as ELISA, Western blotting, RNA/DNA extraction, qPCR, and flow cytometry to bolster in vivo research efforts.
- Create new assays or improve existing methodologies based on a solid understanding of laboratory practices, including the planning and execution of experiments.
- Analyze and document experimental results in an electronic lab notebook or other formats, and effectively present findings during team meetings.




- Utilize strong experimental design and troubleshooting capabilities to improve the quality and efficiency of studies.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams and provide informal mentorship to research associates engaged in in vivo projects.

Requirements

- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant scientific field, along with applicable industry experience:
- For Associate Scientist: Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 8 years or a Master's degree with at least 6 years of experience.
- For Scientist I: Bachelor's degree with 10+ years or a Master's degree with 8+ years of experience.
- Significant hands‑on experience with small laboratory animals, especially mice, in a biotechnology or pharmaceutical context.
- Proven independent expertise in rodent dosing and handling techniques.
- Proficient in tissue dissection and preparation for histological, RNA, and protein analyses.
- Familiarity with molecular and cellular biology techniques, including ELISA, flow cytometry, RT‑PCR, and Luminex assays.
- Competent in using analytical tools such as Excel, GraphPad, and PowerPoint for documentation and data presentation.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a dynamic, cross‑functional team environment.
- Experience with various cell and sample types, including immune cells; expertise in tissue processing and flow cytometry is a plus.




- Skilled in primary and cell line culture techniques, with a proven track record of executing protocols and troubleshooting assays.
- Prior experience with lipid nanoparticles is advantageous.
- Solid organizational and analytical skills, with meticulous attention to detail.
- Self‑motivated and intellectually curious, comfortable engaging with complex scientific challenges.

Nice to have

- Experience with CRISPR and gene editing technologies.
- Knowledge of bioinformatics tools and data analysis software.
- Familiarity with regulatory compliance and good laboratory practices (GLP).

- Proficient in laboratory techniques relevant to in vivo pharmacology.
- Strong analytical skills for data interpretation and presentation.
- Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration and reporting.

Practical notes

The hourly pay for this position ranges from $46 to $60, and the contractor will be employed through a third‑party staffing agency. Certain employee benefits may be accessible through the staffing company once minimum criteria are met.
