About the role

This role sits within the Environmental Health Branch in Health Protection NSW. With your skills and experience, you can contribute to the millions of ways we are enhancing health and wellness while developing your career as part of the largest health organisation in Australia.

As a Regional Aboriginal Environmental Health Project Officer, you will play a central role, working closely with the Manager to support all aspects of high-level project development and implementation of priority projects, including project planning, monitoring and regular reporting.

You will be able to work both independently and as part of a remote team to provide senior policy advice and develop public and environmental health policies that deliver strategic initiatives and respond to emerging issues related to Aboriginal communities. What you will be doing

On a day-to-day basis you will assist with the co-design, development, management and governance of evidence-based Aboriginal environmental health policy and programs, including housing, infrastructure,



and workforce development. You will work closely with public health units, Aboriginal communities and other stakeholders to address public and environmental health issues to protect the health of Aboriginal communities. This will include ensuring high-quality evidence-based project planning, management and evaluation.

The position will require regular travel to remote communities with overnight stays of up to a week at a time to assist with project delivery.

About you

We are seeking a highly motivated, self-driven and high-performing public health professional who is committed to making a difference in the health system. You bring excellent understanding and experience in policy, program or project delivery, combined with the ability to navigate complex environments and competing priorities with confidence.

With tertiary qualifications in environmental health, public health, built environment, and/or relevant work experience in environmental health, you are able to demonstrate an understanding of the range and nature of Aboriginal environmental health issues in NSW. You are self-motivated, organised, able to work independently as well as part of a remote, dynamic team, and can consult effectively with a variety of stakeholders using high-level communication and negotiation skills, including superior written, verbal and interpersonal skills. You can effectively use information technology and systems to access and critically interpret literature and apply scientific knowledge and epidemiological methods to the assessment of environmental health risks, particularly in relation to Aboriginal communities.
