Junior Immigration Lawyer (0–2 Years PAE)

Katsaros & Associates | Brunswick, Melbourne | Full-Time

About Us

Katsaros & Associates is one of Australia’s fastest-growing specialist immigration law firms. Since 2013, we have built a reputation for delivering exceptional legal representation across all areas of Australian immigration law, from partner and skilled visas through to complex Administrative Review Tribunal, Federal Court and judicial review litigation.

We are not a volume processing firm. We are a litigation-minded, client-focused practice where quality, professionalism and results come first.

As our firm continues its rapid expansion, we are seeking an ambitious Junior Immigration Lawyer who thrives in a fast-paced environment and wants to develop into an outstanding immigration practitioner.

About the Role

This is not a back-office drafting role.

You will be immersed in every aspect of legal practice from day one and will work directly alongside the Principal and senior lawyers on a diverse range of immigration matters.

The successful applicant will become a trusted adviser to clients, conducting consultations, providing preliminary legal advice, preparing strategies, drafting complex applications and submissions, and managing files from commencement through to completion under appropriate supervision.

This is a high-energy, client-facing position requiring excellent communication skills, commercial awareness, sound judgement and the ability to think on your feet.

No two days are the same.

Key Responsibilities

- Conduct client consultations and assist clients in identifying suitable visa pathways.
- Build strong relationships with clients through exceptional service and communication.
- Prepare and lodge a wide variety of Australian visa applications.

- Draft detailed legal submissions, statutory declarations and legal correspondence.
- Conduct legal research and interpret complex migration legislation, policy and case law.
- Manage client files from initial enquiry through to finalisation.
- Liaise with the Department of Home Affairs, Administrative Review Tribunal, Federal Court, medical practitioners, employers and other stakeholders.
- Prepare disclosure statements, costs agreements and engagement documentation.
- Maintain accurate trust account records and comply with professional obligations relating to trust money.
- Record billable work accurately and maintain organised electronic files.
- Assist senior lawyers on complex litigation and review matters.
- Work collaboratively with our legal and administrative team to ensure exceptional client outcomes.
- Contribute ideas to improve systems, efficiency and client experience.

About You

We are looking for someone who is intelligent, energetic and genuinely passionate about immigration law.

You should enjoy speaking with people, solving problems and working in a busy environment where priorities change quickly.

You will ideally possess

- Admission as an Australian Lawyer (or eligibility for imminent admission).
- Up to two years’ post-admission experience.
- Immigration law experience is highly regarded but not essential.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.

- Strong legal research and analytical ability.
- Excellent organisational and file management skills.
- Confidence speaking with clients from diverse cultural backgrounds.
- High attention to detail.
- Strong commercial awareness and professional presentation.
- The ability to manage multiple matters simultaneously while maintaining accuracy.
- A willingness to learn quickly and accept responsibility.

What We Offer

- Direct mentoring from an experienced Principal with a specialist immigration practice.
- Exposure to complex and interesting migration matters rarely seen in junior roles.
- Significant client interaction from the outset.
- Genuine responsibility and autonomy as your experience develops.
- A supportive and team-oriented team culture.
- Modern offices located in Brunswick, Melbourne.
- Clear opportunities for professional development and career progression.
- The opportunity to grow with one of Melbourne’s fastest-growing specialist immigration law firms.

Our Culture

We operate in a fast-paced environment where professionalism, responsiveness and client service are paramount.

We value lawyers who are proactive, accountable, resilient and solution-focused.

If you enjoy being challenged, learning every day and working with a team committed to excellence, you will thrive here.

How to Apply

If you are ready to commence or accelerate your career in specialist immigration law, we would love to hear from you.

Please submit

- Your résumé;
- A cover letter outlining your interest in the role; and
- Your academic transcript (if recently admitted).

Only shortlisted applicants will be contacted.
