Ngarluma Ngurra Limited (NNL) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Ngarluma Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC (NAC), the prescribed body corporate for the Ngarluma people.

NNL is responsible for the oversight and development of a diverse portfolio of land, property and other assets intended to create sustainable, long-term benefits for the Ngarluma community.

The opportunity

NNL is seeking an experienced and commercially astute Independent Director to join its Board.

The Independent Director will provide objective advice and oversight as NNL considers opportunities involving land, property, pastoral assets, financing and strategic development.

Working collaboratively with the Board, the successful candidate will contribute to sound governance, informed decision-making and the responsible development and management of NNL’s assets.

Key responsibilities

- Provide independent, commercially focused advice to the NNL Board.

- Contribute to NNL’s strategic direction and long-term asset planning.

- Assess land, property, pastoral and commercial development opportunities.

- Provide oversight of financing, investment and development proposals.

- Review business cases, risks, commercial arrangements and project performance.

- Support strong governance, accountability and effective decision-making.

- Work constructively with fellow Directors, management, professional advisers and other stakeholders.

- Promote outcomes that provide sustainable benefits for the Ngarluma community.

- Experience and capabilities

Applicants must demonstrate substantial experience or relevant qualifications in at least two of the following areas:
- Land development





- Property development

- Real estate

- Financing and investment

- Pastoral operations or the pastoral industry

- Strategic and commercial development

The successful candidate will also demonstrate:
- Senior executive, board or advisory experience.

- Strong commercial judgement and financial literacy.

- The ability to independently assess complex opportunities and risks.

- An understanding of directors’ duties and contemporary governance practices.

- High standards of integrity, independence and accountability.

- The ability to work respectfully and effectively in an Aboriginal organisation.

- Solid communication, collaboration and stakeholder-engagement skills.

Previous experience working with Aboriginal corporations, Traditional Owner organisations or regional communities would be highly regarded. Formal governance qualifications, including completion of the Australian Institute of Company Directors course, would also be advantageous.

Appointment details

This is a remunerated Board appointment. Meetings may be held in Karratha, Perth or by videoconference, with occasional travel required.

The term of appointment, meeting schedule and remuneration will be discussed with shortlisted applicants.
