Motor Neurone Disease Australia (MNDA) is the national peak body leading advocacy, care and research to improve the lives of Australians affected by MND and to work towards a world without the disease. In partnership with State MND Associations and the broader MND community, MNDA is committed to ensuring that lived experience informs decision-making at the highest level. The Board now seeks to appoint an Independent Non-Executive Director living with MND.

This significant appointment will ensure the voice and perspectives of people living with MND are directly embedded in Board discussions, strategy and governance.

As a Board Director you will contribute to the governance and strategic direction of MNDA, with a particular focus on:

- providing insight into the needs, priorities and challenges of people living with MND;
- supporting MNDA to remain connected and responsive to the MND community;
- participating in online Board meetings (approximately 6 per year) with some associated Board Sub-Committee work required outside of meetings;
- attending up to two in-person meetings or events per year (with some appropriate support provided);

- engaging with others in the MND community to stay informed of current needs.

The appointment is for a term of up to three years, subject to individual circumstances.

About You

This role is specifically intended for a person currently living with a confirmed diagnosis of MND. Candidates will ideally be able to demonstrate:

- lived experience navigating the condition;
- a willingness to share personal insights to inform strategy and governance;
- compassion, respect and confidence in engaging with others;
- experience in the corporate, public, health or not-for-profit sectors (desirable);
- an understanding of governance and Board environments (desirable);
- ability to efficiently participate in online discussions (with support of assistive/adaptive technology or other support where required);
- experience engaging with State MND Associations or support networks is beneficial but not essential.

Accessibility & Support

MNDA and Hender Consulting are committed to making this process inclusive and accessible. Flexible communication and application options are available (written, verbal or supported) and discussions and interviews can be adapted to support individual circumstances.

MNDA strongly encourages expressions of interest from people living with MND who are interested in contributing to national leadership in governance, care, advocacy and research.
