Job Title: Independent Sexual Violence Advisor (ISVA)

Reports to: Clinical Director

Position Type: Full-time – Fixed term

Canberra Rape Crisis Centre (CRCC) is a non-government, not for profit organisation working to eliminate sexual violence against adults and children of all genders. CRCC provides free, professional and confidential counselling and support for victim survivors of sexual violence, and their families, who have experienced any form of sexual violence recently or in the past.

Job Summary

CRCC is seeking an experienced and skilled Independent Sexual Violence Advisor (ISVA) to provide specialist support to survivors of sexual violence to navigate the justice system. The ISVA will provide advocacy, information and support to help clients make informed decisions regarding their safety, wellbeing and legal options.

Key Responsibilities

The ISVA will assist with the delivery of the ISVA program while undertaking continuous improvement and ensuring alignment with best practice.



The ISVA will work collaboratively with internal and external to support high-quality outcomes. The ISVA will provide trauma informed, client led support to victim survivors of sexual violence, including information on legal processes and pathways through the criminal justice system. The ISVA will promote equitable access to services and will advocate on behalf of victim survivors with police and the criminal justice as well as any other support agencies as required.

The ISVA will have a robust understanding of the Australian criminal justice system, particularly in relation to sexual violence, and will be able to support clients in navigating legal processes.

The ISVA will have highly developed advocacy and communication skills, with the capacity to liaise effectively and professionally with a diverse range of stakeholders, including police, criminal justice system and other community service providers.

Required Skills and Qualifications

· Minimum of Bachelor of Psychology, Social Work or Counselling from an Australian or recognised equivalent university. · Experience as an ISVA is preferred.

· ACT Working with Vulnerable People registration.

· Australian Driver’s License.

Working Conditions

· Full-time 12-month fixed term.

· Standard hours are 9am to 5pm with the possibility for evening and weekend work.

· On-site or external locations as required.
