An exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced Legal Secretary to join our growing Medical Negligence team in Melbourne.

Working within a well established defendant insurance practice, you will provide high quality administrative and organisational support to a team of legal professionals across a busy and varied file portfolio. This is a pivotal role where you will work closely with lawyers at all levels, assisting to ensure matters progress efficiently while delivering exceptional service to both internal and external stakeholders.

Some of your duties will include:

Collating and editing documents, including 'splitting' electronic files

File management, including opening new files and closing/archiving concluded matters

Drafting correspondence and documents, briefs to Counsel and briefs to medical experts

Filing documents with the Courts

Telephone calls to clients, Courts, other law firms and third parties

Monthly billing, including invoicing and preparation of bills. Previous experience with Aderant/Expert Billing will be highly regarded

About you

We are seeking a proactive and organised Legal Secretary who enjoys working in a quick paced environment and takes pride in delivering high quality support.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

At least 2–3 years' experience as a Legal Secretary or Legal Assistant

Previous experience within a defendant insurance or litigation practice, ideally medical negligence or public liability

Strong document production and file management skills

Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines

A high level of attention to detail and accuracy





Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a client focused approach

The ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team

A proactive attitude, sound judgement and willingness to take initiative

Experience using Aderant Expert, Expert Billing or similar legal practice management systems will be highly regarded.
