What you'll do

- Design and develop scalable data management solutions that support the growing needs of Roku's streaming platform.
- Collaborate with data scientists and analysts to understand their requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
- Optimize existing data pipelines to enhance performance and reliability, ensuring data is accessible and actionable for various teams.
- Implement best practices for data governance, security, and compliance, ensuring that all data handling meets industry standards.
- Participate in code reviews to maintain high-quality standards and share knowledge with team members.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to data integrity and performance, providing timely solutions to minimize disruption.
- Work closely with product managers to define and prioritize features and improvements for the data management platform.




- Stay updated with the latest trends and technologies in data management and software engineering, applying this knowledge to improve our systems.
- Mentor junior engineers, providing guidance and support to help them grow in their roles.
- Contribute to the development of documentation and training materials for internal users of the data management platform.
- Collaborate with DevOps teams to ensure smooth deployment and operation of data services in cloud environments.
- Engage in agile development processes, participating in sprint planning, daily stand‑ups, and retrospectives to continuously improve team dynamics and output.

Requirements

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in software development, with a strong focus on data management systems.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or Scala, with a solid understanding of data structures and algorithms.
- Experience with data storage technologies, including SQL and NoSQL databases, as well as data warehousing solutions.
- Familiarity with data processing frameworks such as Apache Spark or Hadoop.
- Strong understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure) and their data services.
- Knowledge of data governance and compliance standards, including GDPR and CCPA.




- Excellent problem‑solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Strong communication skills, capable of conveying complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to have

- Experience with real-time data processing and streaming technologies, such as Apache Kafka or AWS Kinesis.
- Familiarity with machine learning concepts and tools, enabling collaboration with data science teams.
- Knowledge of containerization technologies like Docker and orchestration tools such as Kubernetes.
- Previous experience in the media or entertainment industry, particularly in streaming services.
- Contributions to open-source projects or active participation in developer communities.
