About MST
MST Lawyers is a full-service commercial law firm based in Melbourne's thriving inner south-east, with more than 60 years of history. We act for Australian and international businesses across corporate advisory, commercial, franchising, property, employment and litigation. We also have a private clients teams encompassing conveyancing, family law and wills & estates.
We are recognised leaders in franchise law and act for franchisors and franchisees across Australia, including brands that are household names, providing end-to-end legal support. We are small enough to offer individual attention and build lasting relationships, yet large enough to deliver top-tier, award-winning work.
The Team
Our Corporate Advisory and Franchising Team handles a diverse range of work for franchisors, including establishing franchise networks, advising and setting up processes to ensure ongoing compliance with the Franchising Code of Conduct. For franchisees, the Team provides advice prior to entry into franchise agreements and guidance along the franchising lifecycle.
Beyond franchising, the Team undertakes a real breadth of work: intellectual property, including licensing and registration of trade marks; commercial contracting; privacy policies and advice; hire agreements and buying and selling businesses.
The Role
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work across the full breadth of the Team’s practice. This is a hands-on role with real client contact and genuine responsibility from the outset, and the opportunity to work directly alongside a Principal as a mentor, building your skills in the field.
The Ideal Candidate
- 2–4 years' post-admission experience from a reputable law firm or busy in-house team.
- Strong general commercial law experience, with some demonstrated franchising, intellectual property and/or privacy experience.
- Broad commercial and consumer law experience.

- A genuine interest in getting involved in broader business development.
A current Victorian practising certificate (or eligibility to hold one) is required. Prior franchising, intellectual property and/or privacy law experience is highly regarded, but we will support the right candidate to develop specialist expertise.
- MST is committed to providing a good work/life balance, flexible working arrangements (where appropriate), a rewarding staff culture, clear career progression and an environment where you are more than a number.
