About the role

We have a fantastic opportunity within our Legal Team! We are currently seeking a self-motivated and skilled individual to join us.

The Legal Officer works as a member of a team providing advice in areas including governance, planning, land management, property, environmental protection and compliance to assist in the conduct of efficient and effective legal services to meet the City of Swan’s corporate goals. The Legal Team works to support robust decision making, policy development and implementation, as well as operational functions.

Key accountabilities include, but are not limited to;

- Contribute to improving the City’s processes and guidelines from a legal risk perspective.
- Prepare, assist with and quality assure legal documents for business units across the City of Swan.
- Undertake research to support investigations in relation to breaches of legislation.
- Interpret and apply legislation and policy within an administrative setting.
- Develop a knowledge bank by maintaining a comprehensive database of decisions and advice relevant to the City’s legal environment.
- Prepare reports and advice for the General Counsel on the management of legal services for the City.

About you The successful candidate will have the following:

- Bachelor’s degree in law
- Admitted to practice law in Western Australia
- Maintain a current practicing certificate from the Legal Practice Board
- A satisfactory National Police Certificate is required.
- Experience in the provision of legal advice across a broad range of Acts and areas of law

About working with us The salary for this position will be from $97,690.06 to $116,436.70 per annum depending on the skills and experience of the successful applicant.
