AWE Consulting Group is a boutique Melbourne-based structural engineering consultancy with over 18 years of hands-on industry experience. We specialise in temporary works engineering -formwork, falsework, scaffolding, propping, façade retention, crane assessments and more -across residential, commercial and civil projects.

We're not a big corporate firm and we have no intention of becoming one. What we are is a tight-knit, expert team that punches well above its weight - regularly delivering on Tier 1 projects alongside some of the most compelling construction challenges in Melbourne. With a growing team, we're now looking to bring an experienced structural drafter into the fold.

Who we're looking for

We're advertising this role at an intermediate to senior level - and we mean it. If you have 2+ years of experience and the right background, we want to hear from you. If you have significantly more and bring deeper technical capability or the ability to lead drawing quality across a team, we'd structure the role and the package to reflect that.

What matters most is that you have genuine temporary works experience (formwork, falsework, scaffolding, propping or similar) and you have a great attention to detail.

The role

This is a hands-on drafting role at the heart of AWE's design process. You'll work closely with our engineers to produce accurate, buildable structural drawings across a wide variety of temporary works projects. It's not a production-line drawing role, temporary works is a specialist discipline where drawings need to be coordinated with complex construction sequences, tight site constraints, and engineering intent that evolves as projects progress.

You'll be based in our Elsternwick office with great parking nearby,



working alongside our engineers in a collaborative environment where your contribution is visible and your development is genuinely supported.

What you'll actually be doing

- Producing 2D structural drawings in AutoCAD for temporary works designs - formwork, falsework, scaffolding, propping, façade retention and demolition works
- Developing 3D models to support design coordination and client/contractor communication (experience with Tekla; or Revit; or similar)
- Working directly with engineers to interpret design intent and translate it into clear, accurate, site-ready drawings
- Preparing and updating drawing registers, revision management, and QA checks on your own work
- Coordinating with project stakeholders (including site teams and contractors) to resolve drawing queries and incorporate design changes
- Contributing to continuous improvement of AWE's drafting standards, templates and workflows
- At senior level: reviewing others' drawings, mentoring junior team members, and helping shape AWE's drawing quality standards

What we need from you

Essential - you'll need these to be considered:

- Construction and/or temporary works background (formwork, falsework, scaffold, propping or similar preferred)
- Ability to read and interpret structural engineering drawings and calculations
- Victorian Driver's Licence

Preferred - these will set you apart:

- AutoCAD 3D or other 3D drafting experience
- Revit and/or Tekla and/or Rhino structures drafting experience
- Experience reviewing or mentoring other drafters (senior candidates)
