About the role:
The Manual Machinist role will see the prospective employee operating a number of different manual mills & lathes as required to produce parts within a job shop environment.
- Parts are primarily steel based, but occasionally different materials such as bronze or nylon do come through.
- Welding experience is essential, with the ability to carry out fabrication, repair, and modification work to a high standard.
- Use of overhead crane to load and unload material/stock from machines.
- Interpreting engineering drawings, choosing and setting tooling, adjusting speeds and feeds.
- Measuring and checking of parts to drawing specifications.
- This role is ongoing casual, 7.30am to 4:00pm, Monday to Thursday, and 7.30am to 1:30pm on Friday.
- Overtime will sometimes be available as demand requires.
- CNC machine experience is of benefit,
but not required.
Required Qualities:
- Recent experience in a heavy industrial setting is essential
- Manufacturing precision components on manual mills and lathes, mill sizes range from relatively small 1000mm beds, and lathes from ~1000mm lengths to 6000mm between centres. Experience on small & large machines is well regarded.
- Cylindrical grinding is well regarded also
- Ability to interpret technical drawings & schematics, and detailed inspection
- Understand tool selection, setting and manufacturing methods. Some setups can be relatively tricky, experience with difficult setups well regarded, experience in assisting other machinists with setups also extremely well regarded.
- Proficient in the use and calibration of measuring equipment.
- Energetic 'Can do' attitude.
- Work well in a team environment and be able to follow direction.
- Strong attention to detail and safety.
- Current or able to obtain a National Police Clearance.
- Experience training apprentices is advantageous.
