Senior Scientist, Conjugation Biochemistry

About the role We are seeking an experienced Senior Scientist to spearhead our conjugation biochemistry efforts at Flagship Pioneering, Inc. The successful candidate will be a proactive and independent researcher, committed to generating high-quality data within a fast-paced research setting. This position will involve supporting a variety of bioconjugation projects that span multiple research and development areas.

What you'll do

- Design, synthesize, and analyze oligonucleotide-conjugates that are linked to antibodies and other platforms, refining conjugation protocols through both established and novel chemical methodologies as part of our assay development process.
- Work closely with the assay development team to improve conjugates that align with our ongoing projects.
- Participate in a cross-functional team to ensure adherence to project timelines, providing consistent updates and effectively communicating progress to all stakeholders.
- Establish and nurture strong collaborative relationships with key partners within the organization to facilitate research and development efforts aimed at advancing pre-clinical initiatives.
- Assist in the preparation of research documentation and presentations for internal teams, executive leadership, and external partners.
- Maintain meticulous and organized laboratory notebooks and batch records to ensure compliance and reproducibility of experiments.
- Conduct analytical characterization of conjugates, employing purification techniques such as RP-HPLC, FPLC, SEC, and IEX.
- Mentor junior scientists and provide guidance on best practices in bioconjugation and analytical methods.




- Stay current with advancements in bioconjugation technologies and methodologies, integrating new techniques into ongoing projects as appropriate.
- Contribute to the development of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for bioconjugation processes, ensuring consistency and quality across projects.
- Engage in troubleshooting and problem-solving activities to address experimental challenges and optimize workflows.

Requirements

- A Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Chemistry, or a closely related discipline.
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant industry experience in bioconjugation, particularly in the design, synthesis, and validation of oligonucleotide conjugates.
- Strong understanding of project timelines and deliverables, with the ability to coordinate efforts among diverse stakeholders.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a proactive mindset towards exploring and implementing new methodologies.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of conveying complex scientific concepts to varied audiences.
- Hands-on experience with modern bioconjugation techniques involving antibodies, proteins, peptides, and other biomolecules.
- Proven expertise in the analytical characterization of conjugates, with proficiency in purification techniques including RP-HPLC, FPLC, SEC, and IEX.
- Ability to work independently or collaboratively within a team, requiring minimal supervision.
- Adaptable and adaptable,



capable of managing shifting priorities and challenges with professionalism in a dynamic environment.
- Self-motivated with strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills, taking an active role in a collaborative setting.

Nice to have

- Experience with high-throughput screening methods for bioconjugate evaluation.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements and compliance in biopharmaceutical development.
- Background in immunology or related fields that enhance bioconjugation applications.
- Knowledge of bioinformatics tools for data analysis and interpretation.

Skills & tools

- Proficient in bioconjugation techniques and analytical methodologies relevant to biochemistry.
- Familiarity with laboratory data analysis software and tools specific to bioconjugation research.

Practical notes

- Please note that visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
- The salary for this role ranges from $126,000 to $181,500, depending on the candidate's qualifications, skills, and experience.
