About the role:

Reporting through to the Director, Balit Murrup Unit (Balit Murrup means `Strong Spirit' in the Woi-wurrung language), the Manager, Aboriginal Mental Health Workforce and Cultural Safety will play a key role in building a strong, skilled and supported Aboriginal mental health workforce in Victorian mental health services. The role is also responsible for leading and supporting mental health services to improve their cultural safety and responsiveness to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander consumers, staff and local communities.

The Aboriginal Mental Health Workforce and Cultural Safety team deliver key programs and initiatives, including, but not limited to:

- Aboriginal Mental Health Traineeship Program
- Aboriginal Social and Emotional Wellbeing Scholarship Program
- Koori Mental Health Liaison Officer (KMHLO) program in infant, child and youth mental health services, and KMHLO program in adult area mental health services
- Cultural safety funding to infant, child and youth mental health services

About you:

Can you demonstrate the following?





- Develops policy frameworks within area of expertise or responsibility based on defined organisational priorities
- Identifies and responds to new and emerging strategic issues impacting on the operating environment
- Resolves complex issues through a process of consultation and negotiation
- Prepares technical reports at an authoritative level
- Uses knowledge of structures, processes and culture of government, the sector and the Department to develop policies and new program or project initiatives
- Responsible for operational policy or service development impacting on a major functional area

Qualification / Specialist Expertise

- A tertiary qualification in fields related to Aboriginal health, public policy, community engagement, mental health or associated areas would be highly desirable.
- A comprehensive knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture, Aboriginal community needs in contemporary society and the ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal organisations, Aboriginal workforce and mainstream mental health services.
