About the role Flagship Pioneering, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Scientist to enhance our research team. The successful candidate will possess a deep understanding of cell isolation and sorting techniques, experience with mouse studies (both in vivo and in vitro), and familiarity with gene-silencing technologies such as siRNA. This role will focus on designing and implementing preclinical studies to propel our therapeutic initiatives forward, while also providing opportunities for leadership and mentorship within the team.

What you'll do

- Develop and execute sophisticated in vitro and ex vivo experiments that are essential for advancing research and preclinical projects.
- Spearhead multi‑parameter flow cytometry assays, focusing on the design, optimization, and data interpretation.
- Refine methodologies for isolating and sorting cells from diverse biological samples.
- Conduct in vivo studies using mouse models, which includes creating disease models, administering doses, collecting tissues, and performing phenotypic analyses.
- Create and implement siRNA strategies to validate targets and explore biological pathways.
- Perform microscopy experiments, including fluorescence and live‑cell imaging, and analyze the resulting data sets.
- Employ a variety of molecular and cellular biology techniques to support target validation and mechanism exploration.
- Analyze and interpret results from cell profiling experiments utilizing flow cytometry and imaging methodologies.




- Contribute to the discovery of biomarkers and the characterization of preclinical candidates.
- Present research findings to cross‑functional teams and higher management.
- Produce technical reports and scientific documentation to aid in the progression of programs.
- Collaborate with internal teams, contract research organizations (CROs), and academic collaborators.
- Mentor junior scientists and promote a collaborative research atmosphere.
- For those at the Senior Scientist and Principal Scientist levels, provide scientific direction and contribute to the overarching research strategy.
- Maintain meticulous experimental records and ensure compliance with ethical and regulatory standards.

Requirements

- A Ph.D. in Cell Biology, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Pharmacology, Immunology, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field, with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience for Senior Scientist roles; 8 years for Principal Scientist roles.
- Alternatively, a Master's degree with substantial industry experience will be considered.
- Strong proficiency in flow cytometry, including cell sorting (FACS), panel design, and data analysis using software such as FlowJo.
- Expertise in cell isolation techniques, including tissue dissociation and magnetic bead separation methods.
- Significant experience with mouse models and in vitro experimental techniques.




- Proven skills in siRNA design and functional validation processes.
- Practical experience with various microscopy technologies, including fluorescence and confocal imaging.
- Strong capabilities in quantitative data analysis and experimental design.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a focus on scientific documentation.
- Ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment.

Nice to have

- Experience in translational research, drug discovery, or preclinical therapeutic development.
- Background in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical sectors.
- Familiarity with cell profiling and functional assays involving primary mouse and human cells.
- Knowledge of advanced technologies in single‑cell and spatial biology, such as scRNA‑seq or spatial transcriptomics.
- Experience in managing CROs and collaborating with external partners.
- Proficiency in additional molecular and cellular biology techniques, including qPCR, Western blotting, ELISA, RNA‑seq, and immunohistochemistry.
- Experience with image analysis software like ImageJ/Fiji or CellProfiler.
- A history of scientific publications or patents related to therapeutic innovations.

Practical notes

The salary for this position ranges from $126,000 to $160,000, with compensation determined by various factors, including the candidate's qualifications and experience.
