ShawX Manufacturing, based in Cleveland, South East Queensland, is an Australian-owned engineering and manufacturing company specialising in the design and manufacture of the innovative EjectX truck body system. As demand for our products continues to grow across Australia, we are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to assist with the engineering development of our product range.
About the Role
Reporting directly to the General Manager, you will provide support across the business and design, develop and continuously improve our heavy vehicle products.
Working closely with Production, Sales, Purchasing and Quality teams, you will ensure our products remain innovative, reliable, compliant and commercially competitive.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering Leadership
- Design and development of our EjectX truck bodies and trailer products.
- Manage engineering projects from concept through to production.
- Drive innovation and continuous product improvement.
Product Design & Development
- Produce and review detailed 3D CAD models and manufacturing drawings.
- Perform engineering calculations, structural assessments and design validation.
- Conduct design reviews and oversee engineering change management.
- Develop and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs).
- Ensure products are designed for manufacture, assembly and long-term serviceability.
Manufacturing Support
- Work closely with fabrication and assembly teams to resolve technical issues.
- Improve manufacturing efficiency through smarter engineering solutions.
- Identify opportunities to reduce production costs while maintaining quality.
- Support prototype builds and product testing.
- Investigate product failures and implement permanent corrective actions.
Compliance & Quality
- Ensure compliance with Australian Design Rules (ADR), NHVR requirements and relevant Australian Standards.
- Maintain engineering documentation and revision control.
- Support the company's Quality Management System.
About You
You are an experienced Mechanical Engineer who shows fare with your designs and enjoys solving complex engineering challenges.
You understand that good engineering balances innovation, practicality, manufacturability and commercial outcomes.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in mechanical engineering.
- Extensive experience in heavy manufacturing or heavy vehicle industries.
- Strong experience with steel fabrication and welded assemblies.
- Advanced CAD skills (SolidWorks preferred).
- Experience leading engineering projects.
- Strong understanding of Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Highly Desirable Experience
- Heavy vehicle manufacturing.
- Truck body or trailer design.
- Hydraulics and hydraulic systems.
- Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
- Fatigue and structural analysis.
- Sheet metal and fabricated steel design.
- Lean Manufacturing principles.
- Australian Design Rules (ADR).
- NHVR engineering requirements.
