Part-time, fixed-term contract | 30 hours per week
Salary: $90,000 – $100,000 plus superannuation guarantee, pro rata
Location: Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane; hybrid remote & in-person
Contract term: 4 months
Avion Communications is looking for a mid-weight digital copywriter to create clear, helpful customer communications for one of our major clients.
You will write the content customers rely on when they need information, support, or an important service update. This includes incident alerts, customer emails, FAQs, web banners, and help and support pages and articles.
This role will suit someone who has worked as a copywriter, content producer, or digital content specialist within a large and complex organisation. Experience in sectors such as financial services, insurance, superannuation, transport, utilities, or telecommunications are particularly valuable.
You will be responsible for taking work from brief through to approval. That means asking the right questions early, writing confidently with limited supervision, and keeping content moving through rigorous stakeholder reviews and sign-offs.
What you will do
- Write and edit customer emails, incident alerts, FAQs, web banners, and help and support content
- Turn complex, operational, or time-sensitive information into clear customer communications
- Apply customer experience (CX), user experience (UX), web accessibility, and digital writing principles
- Interpret briefs, identify missing information, and ask useful questions before writing
- Independently manage content through multiple stakeholder reviews and approval stages
- Respond constructively to feedback while protecting clarity, accuracy, and customer needs
- Attend and contribute to client stand-ups and project discussions
- Track tasks, deadlines, feedback, and project updates in Jira
- Peer review other Avion writers’ work and provide constructive feedback
- Identify opportunities to improve the client’s content, processes, and ways of working
- Communicate proactively with clients and Avion colleagues
What we are looking for
You may be a strong fit for this role if you have:
- Professional experience as a digital copywriter, content producer, content designer, or similar
- Experience producing customer communications for a large organisation
- A portfolio that includes digital service content, customer emails, FAQs, help content, alerts, or operational communications
- Strong plain English writing and editing skills
- A sound understanding of digital accessibility and customer-centred content
- Experience working with brand, legal, product, operational, and other subject matter experts
- The judgement to interpret and reconcile feedback from multiple stakeholders
- Strong attention to detail, including spelling, grammar, consistency, and version control
- The ability to manage your workload, meet deadlines, and flag risks early
- Confidence working independently while remaining collaborative and open to feedback
Experience with Confluence and Jira, Microsoft Sharepoint and Teams, Figma, regulated environments, and UX writing would be useful but is not essential.
The kind of person who will thrive in this role
You do not wait until a deadline is at risk before raising a problem. You clarify expectations early, plan your work, and keep people informed.
You are comfortable receiving detailed feedback from several stakeholders.
You can distinguish between a genuine requirement and a personal preference, ask respectful questions, and help a group reach a clear outcome.
You turn up to meetings on-time and well-prepared.
Most importantly, you care about:
- Making information easier for customers to understand and act on, particularly when the subject is complex, sensitive, or time-critical.
- Upholding professional standards and delivering on your promises.
Why work at Avion?
Avion is a copywriting and content strategy agency that helps organisations in regulated industries make complex information clearer and digital experiences more useful.
As part of our team, you will receive:
- Five weeks of annual leave per year, pro rata
- Up to 10 days of personal leave that can be used for mental health days, pro rata
- A strong internal peer review process that supports collaboration and high-quality work
- Optional twice-monthly in-person team days to work and socialise together
- Quarterly strategy sessions where every employee can contribute to how Avion works and grows
- The opportunity to work from outside Australia for up to four consecutive weeks, subject to management and client approval
- Support from experienced copywriters, content designers, and content strategists
- Meaningful ownership of customer communications used by a major Australian organisation
How to apply
Please submit your CV and share examples of relevant work.
We are particularly interested in seeing customer-facing digital content such as emails, alerts, FAQs, help pages or articles, service updates, or other content that communicates complex information in a way that’s easy to understand.
In your application, briefly tell us about a project where you managed content through a complex stakeholder review or approval process.
