Moneycare is The Salvation Army’s (Salvos) national financial counselling and financial capability program which seeks to alleviate hardship and build long term resilience. The Salvos understands that everyone’s financial situation is different. Our evidence-based methods are professional, caring and have a holistic impact on the lives of those who come to us seeking assistance.

About the role

We are seeking a proactive and experienced Financial Counsellor to provide financial counselling, casework and advocacy for people who are in financial difficulty or hardship or are wishing to avoid such situations. Reporting to the Moneycare Manager, this is a permanent full-time position, based in Geelong, Victoria. Conditions

Compensation is in accordance with the SCHADS Award Level 5 (dependant on qualification and accreditation).

You will successfully

Provide compassionate, client-centred financial counselling support to individuals and families experiencing financial hardship

Build positive relationships with clients and empower them to make informed decisions and achieve their financial goals

Assess clients' financial circumstances, identify challenges, and develop tailored action plans to address their needs





Support clients to access relevant services, community resources, and financial assistance programs

Advocate on behalf of clients with creditors, service providers, and other organisations to help resolve financial issues

Regularly review client progress from individual case plans, adjust support plans where needed, and work collaboratively to achieve sustainable outcomes

You will have

Diploma in Community Services (Financial Counselling)

Relevant experience in a social service workplace and/or a strong understanding of issues around the causes of financial hardship and financial exclusion

Accreditation as a Financial Counsellor or be willing to attain accreditation

Demonstrated ability to work with different cultures and backgrounds A current Victoria Employee Working with Children Check
