Job Description
Growmore Partners Pty Ltd T/A FORMAL FINISH COATINGS The Mechanical Engineering Technician (ANZSCO 312512) is responsible for supporting the installation, testing, maintenance, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of mechanical equipment and production systems used in the company's spray-painting and surface-finishing operations. The role ensures machinery operates safely, efficiently and reliably, minimising downtime while maintaining the company's high standards of quality, productivity and workplace safety.
The Mechanical Engineering Technician provides technical support for the maintenance and optimisation of production machinery, spray-painting systems, compressors, conveyors, curing equipment and other mechanical plant used throughout the coating process. Working closely with management and production personnel, the position assists in diagnosing equipment faults, implementing preventative maintenance programs, improving operational efficiency and ensuring compliance with Australian safety and engineering standards. The role contributes to the smooth delivery of high-quality coating solutions for commercial, industrial and residential projects.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Install, commission, inspect and maintain mechanical equipment used in spray-painting, coating and finishing operations.
- Perform preventative maintenance on spray booths, compressors, pumps, conveyors, drying systems and associated mechanical equipment.
- Diagnose mechanical faults, investigate equipment failures and carry out repairs to minimise production downtime.
- Monitor machinery performance and recommend engineering improvements to increase operational efficiency and equipment reliability.
- Assist engineers with testing,
calibration and commissioning of new machinery and production equipment.
- Prepare maintenance schedules, inspection reports, technical documentation and equipment service records.
- Ensure all plant and machinery comply with workplace health and safety requirements, Australian Standards and company procedures.
- Coordinate with suppliers and contractors regarding equipment servicing, spare parts procurement and technical support.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by analysing production data and recommending mechanical process enhancements.
- Provide technical assistance to production staff on the safe and efficient operation of mechanical equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
- AQF associate degree, Advanced Diploma or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Engineering Technology or a closely related discipline, or an equivalent overseas qualification recognised in Australia (ANZSCO Skill Level 2).
- Demonstrated experience in the installation, testing, maintenance, fault diagnosis and repair of mechanical equipment, machinery and production systems in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, schematics and maintenance manuals, with sound knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to conduct equipment inspections, prepare technical reports and recommend improvements to enhance operational efficiency.
- Sound understanding of Australian Workplace Health & Safety (WHS) requirements, engineering standards and preventative maintenance practices, with the ability to work effectively both independently and within a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience in the spray-painting, surface finishing, manufacturing or industrial coating industry will be highly regarded.
