Pathway Talent is recruiting on behalf of a well-established for-purpose organisation with more than 55 years of experience supporting individuals, families and communities. We are seeking a Youth Suicide Prevention Peer Worker to join an innovative psychosocial support program that supports children and young people up to 25 years of age who have lived experience of suicide, suicidality and self-harm.

Grounded in lived experience and peer support, this program provides a safe and supportive environment where young people can connect, build resilience and work towards recovery. We're looking for someone with lived experience who is passionate about walking alongside young people and their support networks, helping them navigate emotional or mental distress and create positive pathways forward.

About the role

Using your own lived experience of recovery, you'll provide tailored, lived experience-driven psychosocial support that meets each young person where they are. Your work will focus on enhancing wellbeing, building resilience and helping young people recover from adversity.

What you'll do

- Build and maintain strong, trusting relationships with children and young people (CYP), their families and carers, team members and stakeholders.
- Work collaboratively to assess support needs and deliver supports in line with relevant practice, quality frameworks and standards.
- Draw on recovery-oriented, trauma-informed and strengths-based practice in all interactions.
- Co-develop, implement and review realistic, evidence-based support plans with young people, their families and the Clinical Lead.
- Use your personal lived experience of a suicidal crisis and/or distress to provide peer support meaningfully and purposefully.
- Participate in intake and review meetings, and contribute to safety planning and risk assessment.
- Maintain accurate,



timely records and support the Clinical Lead with reporting obligations.
- Contribute to service co-design, Youth Advisory Groups and continuous improvement, working closely with the Lived Experience Lead and other Peer Workers.

What you'll bring

- Lived experience of ongoing recovery from suicidality, emotional or mental distress, this is essential to the role.
- Formal peer support training (e.g. Certificate IV in Mental Health or Mental Health Peer Work), or a willingness to undertake it.
- Experience providing peer-based psychosocial support to children and/or young people in a mental health or similar setting, including contributing to risk assessments and safety plans.
- Clear, compassionate communication and strong active-listening skills.
- Proven capacity to apply trauma-informed and recovery-oriented principles with care, respect and a focus on safety.
- The ability to work within multidisciplinary teams and engage with external stakeholders.
- Strong organisational and documentation skills.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, including child protection and mandatory reporting obligations.
