Responsibilities
How You’ll Make an Impact
- Participate in network planning, architecture design and engineering to drive robust infrastructure solutions
- Integrate communication topologies, hardware, software, transmission links and protocols into cohesive network configurations
- Evaluate recent products and resolve network issues to ensure optimal performance and reliability
- Assist in developing and documenting technical standards to maintain consistent operational excellence
- Implement approved procedures and protocol compatibility standards while recommending network enhancements
- Provide tier support across organizations and contribute as a project team member or occasional lead on medium to high complexity projects
- Coach less experienced staff and uphold compliance with applicable regulations and company policies
Working Conditions
- Work in an office environment with occasional duties in a Network Lab setting
- Operate in a 24/7 Network Operations environment where on-call work may be required depending on business needs
- Travel occasionally as needed
Qualifications
What You’ll Bring to Spectrum
Required Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field, or equivalent work experience
Experience
- 3+ years of data network experience
Skills
- Ability to read, write and speak English fluently
- Proficiency with personal computers and software applications
- Data networking knowledge including OSI Model, TCP/IP and Optical Transport
- Teamwork and collaboration skills
- Familiarity with industry specifications and standards including IEEE, ANSI, Fiber (Multimode, Single mode, UTP), Bridging, Switching, Routing, Ethernet and Transport protocols
- Experience with network design, architecture, protocols and topology
- Ability to use ticketing and software tools to support operations
- Understanding of basic network devices and appliances
- Knowledge of network design software such as Visio
- Capability to perform in a fast-paced environment and quickly learn new technology
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
Preferred Qualifications
- Frontline support via engagement tickets — has supported a frontline or Tier 1 team through formal engagement/work-order tickets.
- Support chat assistance — comfortable jumping into live support chats to assist frontline teams in real time.
- Customer-facing bridge representation — can represent an engineering function on customer-facing bridge calls.
- Cross-team liaison — has liaised between multiple internal engineering teams when a single customer issue spans more than one technical silo.
- Networking certification — holds or is actively pursuing a foundational industry networking certification, demonstrating baseline networking knowledge. Examples: CompTIA Network+; Cisco CCNA or CyberOps Associate; Cisco Meraki Solutions Specialist/CMNA (relevant to MNE/Managed WiFi); Juniper JNCIA-Junos; a foundational voice/UC cert (Cisco CCNA Collaboration, Avaya ACSS) for candidates leaning toward Managed Voice support.
Education
- Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP)
- Industry and vendor-specific certifications and training (Cisco, Juniper, Alcatel-Lucent)
