About the role

Flagship Pioneering is on the lookout for a Senior Scientist to become a key player in the Pioneering Intelligence initiative. This role is centered on the creation of AI and machine learning-based platforms that aim to revolutionize applications within the life sciences sector. The ideal candidate will take charge of formulating both clinical and commercial strategies, while also converting intricate therapeutic pipeline strategies into autonomous systems that can significantly improve the drug development process.

What you'll do

- Serve as the leading authority on clinical and commercial pipeline strategies, merging domain expertise with AI functionalities.
- Convert established strategic frameworks into autonomous systems capable of independently identifying and prioritizing opportunities in drug development.
- Oversee the comprehensive process of defining authentic patient needs, ensuring that agentic tools adequately address these needs through reliable evaluations and feedback systems.
- Prototype agentic capabilities directly, collaborating with engineering teams to create and enhance systems that are ready for production.
- Steer the technical and strategic evolution of agentic capabilities throughout the Flagship ecosystem.
- Collaborate closely with business and strategy analysts to ensure that strategic inquiries align with the specifications and capabilities of agentic systems.




- Communicate research outcomes and product development updates across various platforms and forums.
- Engage in continuous learning and adaptation of emerging technologies to enhance the effectiveness of agentic systems.
- Mentor junior team members and contribute to a culture of innovation and excellence within the organization.
- Analyze market trends and competitive landscapes to inform strategic decisions and enhance the drug development pipeline.
- Develop and maintain relationships with external partners and stakeholders to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing.

Requirements

- A doctoral degree (PhD or MD) in life sciences, medicine, or a closely related discipline.
- Extensive experience in clinical and commercial pipeline strategy, with a proven ability to influence decisions in drug development.
- A strong background in translational medicine, particularly in guiding assets through Investigational New Drug (IND) applications and Phase 1 trials, with cross-functional engagement.
- Deep understanding of genuine patient needs versus market-driven narratives, with a history of advocating for authentic patient perspectives.
- Familiarity with industry-standard pipeline and competitive intelligence tools, such as Clarivate Cortellis and EvaluatePharma.




- Proven experience in utilizing advanced large language models (LLMs), such as Claude, in a professional setting, demonstrating structured prompting and complex task management.
- Proficiency in coding for prototyping workflows, with a collaborative approach to working with engineers while gradually increasing independence in this area.
- High degree of autonomy and sound judgment, with a successful track record of navigating ambiguous challenges to deliver results.
- Ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary teams and communicate complex concepts clearly to senior leadership.
- Strong analytical skills and problem-solving capabilities.

Nice to have

- Background in computational biology, bioinformatics, or a quantitative field relevant to drug development.
- Experience in creating or implementing LLM agents or agentic workflows.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as R or Python, along with familiarity with version control and cloud computing platforms like AWS.
- A history of translating strategic queries into actionable outcomes within a biopharma or platform context.
- Experience in middle management or business development, including asset evaluations and strategic planning.
