Play a key leadership role in delivering a safe, secure, and trauma informed therapeutic care environment for young people in detention. The role supports multidisciplinary practice that responds to young people’s psychosocial, developmental, and criminogenic needs while providing high-level guidance to support effective centre operations.

About the Role

We are seeking an Assistant Manager – Practice and Care to join our team at Ashley Youth Detention Centre (AYDC). In this role you will embody a deep commitment to therapeutic care and trauma informed practice, bringing strong expertise in rights, evidence based, holistic and restorative approaches to supporting young people in detention.

As a key voice within the senior leadership team, you will lead the cultural shift toward embedding trauma informed care as the foundation of daily practice, drawing on complex systems thinking to shape the whole ecosystem of AYDC.

What we are Looking For

- Demonstrated experience operating at a management level preferably in secure group care or youth detention settings,



providing professional leadership and oversight in services for children and young people,
- Demonstrated advanced theoretical and/or experiential knowledge base in the provision of therapeutic care for children and young people,
- A passion for working with vulnerable young people and model the Department’s values through respectful relationships, integrity, and collaborative leadership,
- Highly skilled in building trust, guiding multidisciplinary teams, and providing high-quality practice supervision, while relational practice and therapeutic care approach across the centre,
- Have deep relational capability, and a commitment to creating safe, consistent, and healing centred environments for children and young people.

Condition of Employment

- Salary $132,460 to $ 139,392 per annum + 6.5% corrections allowance + super
- Award/ Agreement: Health and Human Services (Tasmanian State Service) Award
- Classification: General Stream Band 7

- Ability to obtain or have a current Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (Employment Status) – Tasmania.
