Job Description
About the Position:
An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Environment Health Officer to join the Shire of Broome.
TheEnvironment Health Officer will be responsible for protecting and promoting public and environmental health across the Shire of Broome through the administration and enforcement of relevant legislation, local laws, policies, and standards. This includes assessing and managing environmental health risks, conducting inspections and investigations, ensuring regulatory compliance, issuing statutory notices where required, and providing expert technical advice to stakeholders. The role contributes to strategic planning, policy development, community education, and continuous improvement initiatives while supporting organisational objectives and maintaining high standards of environmental health management and customer service.
This is a permanent full time position that will be based at the Shire of Broome Administration Office, work hours Monday - Friday 7.45am- 4.30pm. Flexible Work Arrangements can be possible for the right Candidate.
About You:
Our ideal candidate will have demonstrated expertise in environmental health principles, practices, and legislative frameworks, supported by strong research, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities. Possesses highly developed written and verbal communication skills,
with the ability to effectively interpret and communicate complex health-related matters, policies, and procedures to a wide range of stakeholders. Experienced in negotiation, conflict resolution, and stakeholder engagement, with a proven ability to build positive working relationships and deliver high-quality customer service. Well organised, adaptable, and capable of managing competing priorities to meet deadlines with minimal supervision. Committed to continuous improvement, reflective practice, workplace health and safety, equal opportunity principles, and contributing positively to team and organisational objectives.
