About us
Cobar is a rural mining community in western New South Wales. Council operates the Cobar Shire & TAFE Library, Great Cobar Heritage Centre, Lilliane Brady Village (aged care), Children's Services, Youth & Community Centre, and works depots in Euabalong and Cobar.

About you
You have experience in animal handling and regulatory compliance, can work independently, and exercise sound judgement in complex situations. You're practical, solutions-focused, confident engaging in the field with diverse stakeholders, and able to negotiate positive outcomes.
You apply legislation fairly and consistently and enjoy a diverse role where no two days are the same.
About the role
Deliver high-quality compliance, enforcement, and customer service functions supporting the safety and liveability of Cobar Shire, including:
- Investigating complaints and undertaking patrols
- Animal handling and applying relevant legislation
- Compliance across companion animals, littering and water pollution, abandoned vehicles, public safety hazards, parks and reserves, building sites, and obstructions in public spaces
This is a hands-on regulatory role with high autonomy, combining proactive community engagement and formal enforcement where required.
Pay and conditions
- Band 2 Level 3: up to $98,000 per annum, plus superannuation and relocation
- Local Government (State) Award conditions
- Overtime and on-call opportunities as required
Additional information
- Shortlisted candidates will undergo pre-employment medical, including drug and alcohol screening.
