Operating Partner
Australia (hybrid) · Senior · Full time or fractional About CapitalCurve
CapitalCurve builds the operating function for growth-stage businesses - across growth, strategy and ops, and finance. We embed rather than advise.
An Operating
Partner, a senior operator who has run the function at scale, leads. A Forward Deployed Engineer builds what’s needed.
The Operating
Partner identifies what is broken. The engineer installs the fix, on the client’s live systems. Our clients are founders and operators running businesses between $20m and $1bn+ in revenue, across Australia, the US and UK. You will work with them directly, in their systems and in the room when the decisions get made. About the role
You own a portfolio of clients end to end. You run the diagnostic that finds where a business is losing money, time or visibility. You decide what gets built, in what order, and what right looks like. You direct the Forward Deployed Engineers who build it.
You are in front of the founder or CEO when the work lands and the decision gets made. One engagement is a finance function that cannot close a month or forecast cash. The next is a growth engine with no pipeline discipline, a forecast nobody believes and a comp plan driving the wrong behaviour.
The work underneath is the same, and you should be able to lead either. Specification is the skill that separates people here. Most senior operators carry their judgment implicitly. They know a bad debtor, a stalled deal or a broken close when they see one, without ever having to say why.
That does not survive contact with this model. Your judgment has to be written down, tested and handed to an engineer to build, and that is what lets you run a portfolio rather than one client at a time. The split is roughly 60/40, delivery and origination.
We are not going to put a number in a job ad, but we will discuss it properly in the process, and we expect you to arrive with a view on what you can originate and how. If that question is uncomfortable, this is the wrong seat. Working at the frontier
Deploying models where being wrong is expensive is an unsolved problem, and a large share of the work sits here.
The Operating
Partner decides what a machine is allowed to decide.
You set the policy: which decisions are automated, which are escalated, what the thresholds are, who holds the approval, and what evidence is required before trust is extended. Your engineers build the evaluation infrastructure. You define what passing looks like, on a live ledger or a client’s CRM, in front of a board that will ask why the number moved.
Models never act directly. Every consequence is deterministic code, released by a human. Getting that boundary in the right place, client by client, is the judgment we are hiring. What the role compounds into
You are joining early enough to shape what this firm becomes: the engagement model, the accelerators, the standard, the people. That comes with a real ownership stake in the business you help build, not an ESOP that never pays off. You will work directly with some of the most successful founders and operators in the country, with your name on the work, and you will build a body of installed systems that keep running after you leave the room.
Years of hard-won operating judgment stops being something you re-apply manually on every engagement and starts being something that scales. What we’re looking for
Operators, not advisors. People who have carried the accountability, not diagnosed it from outside. Big 4 or equivalent grounding, then real operating. Process and controls discipline from a professional services start, combined with executive decision making inside high-growth businesses between $20m and $1bn+ in revenue. We know exactly what that combination is worth, because it is how this firm was built.
You have run an operating function at scale. Growth, operations or finance,
accountable to a board or an investor for outcomes rather than reporting. What it was called matters less than what you owned.
Growth credibility. You have built or run a go-to-market motion, or owned the outcome of one. Pipeline and forecast discipline, segment and territory design, sales comp, lead routing and handoff, and the people who sell.
Commercial breadth. You can lead a growth team as readily as a finance function. Pipeline conversion, CAC payback, unit economics and a broken month-end close in the same meeting.
Still hands on. You are in the model, in the CRM, in the data. Senior here does not mean reviewing other people’s work.
Fluent in agentic and frontier technology. You have put it to work on something real and can speak to specific use cases with evidence rather than enthusiasm. We build bespoke, high-leverage tools here, not chat windows, so you need a view on where a model belongs inside a system and where it does not.
Ability to specify. You can turn how you make a decision into rules an engineer can build and a system can test. This is the hardest requirement on this list.
A network you can quantify. Founders, investors, boards, advisors. Not a contact list, relationships that return your call and refer work.
Credibility with founders and investor boards. You will present your own work and defend it under pressure.
Sharpening your craft, we want to hear about how you dedicate your time to succeed in your chosen endeavors.
Based in Australia with full work rights.
Line of sight to: PE or VC portfolio operating experience, M&A; and post-acquisition integration, international expansion or a current market launch, revenue operations and CRM architecture, SQL or comfort in a data warehouse, CA, CPA or CFA. Details
Sydney, hybrid, with a mix of time in the office and on client site. Full time preferred, and we will consider a fractional arrangement for the right person. Reports to the Founding Operating Partner. Remuneration is base plus bonus and commission on work you originate, alongside a path to equity. We will be specific about all of it in the process.
