We are looking for an experienced Senior Azure Cloud Platform Engineer to join a growing Cloud Platform team supporting a major Azure transformation program within a critical infrastructure organisation.
This is a core platform engineering role where you'll help build a modern Azure platform from the ground up, designing secure, scalable, and reusable cloud infrastructure that enables enterprise-wide adoption. Working as part of a newly established Azure capability, you'll play a key role in defining platform standards, automation, governance, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and self-service cloud patterns while mentoring junior engineers and supporting long-term cloud maturity.
You'll work alongside solution architects, domain architects, networking, cyber security, and Data & AI delivery teams to deliver a large-scale greenfield Azure platform backed by significant Microsoft investment.

Responsibilities
- Design, build, and support secure, scalable, and resilient Microsoft Azure cloud infrastructure.
- Develop reusable Infrastructure as Code (IaC) modules using Bicep (preferred), Terraform, and ARM templates.
- Build cloud platform capabilities that enable self-service landing zones and standardised deployment patterns.
- Automate infrastructure provisioning, configuration, and deployments using Azure DevOps and CI/CD pipelines.
- Design and implement Azure governance frameworks, policy-as-code, guardrails, and platform standards.
- Implement Azure security best practices including RBAC, identity management, network security, encryption,
and compliance controls.
- Collaborate with networking, cyber security, architecture, and application teams to deliver enterprise cloud solutions.
- Support Azure cloud migrations, platform modernisation, and greenfield cloud implementations.
- Configure and manage Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Application Insights, monitoring, alerting, and operational dashboards.
- Optimise Azure platform performance, scalability, resilience, and cost through proactive monitoring and FinOps practices.
- Develop operational documentation, runbooks, platform standards, reusable patterns, and knowledge articles.
- Mentor and upskill junior cloud engineers while helping establish engineering best practices across the team.
- Support ServiceNow integration initiatives to automate Azure provisioning and cloud operations.
- Participate in disaster recovery planning, platform resilience, operational support, and future on-call activities as the platform matures.
- Work closely with project managers and stakeholders within a structured enterprise delivery environment to deliver cloud platform initiatives.
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise-scale Microsoft Azure platforms.
- Solid hands-on experience with Azure infrastructure including compute, networking, storage,
identity, and security services.
- Extensive Infrastructure as Code experience using Bicep (highly preferred), Terraform, or ARM templates.
- Experience building reusable cloud platform modules, templates, and self-service deployment capabilities.
- Solid experience with Azure DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, automation, and scripting using PowerShell, Python, or Bash.
- Strong understanding of Azure governance, policy-as-code, cloud security, identity, and compliance frameworks.
- Experience implementing Azure landing zones, enterprise networking, and platform engineering best practices.
- Strong troubleshooting, monitoring, performance tuning, and operational support experience across Azure environments.
- Experience integrating enterprise platforms such as ServiceNow into cloud provisioning and operational workflows.
- Excellent documentation, stakeholder engagement, and communication skills.
- Experience mentoring engineers and contributing to the growth of cloud engineering capabilities.
Highly Regarded
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric infrastructure and platform services.
- Microsoft Azure certifications including Azure Administrator Associate, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or DevOps Engineer Expert.
- Experience within utilities, critical infrastructure, or other highly regulated enterprise environments.
- Knowledge of ISO 27001, NIST, CIS Benchmarks, and enterprise cloud governance.
- Experience building cloud platforms from the ground up within greenfield environments.
- ITIL Foundation or relevant cloud, automation, or security certifications.
