What you'll do
- Design complex gantry structures and custom end effectors utilizing Fusion 360 to meet precise automation requirements.
- Enhance overall system dependability by reviewing video recordings of end effector operations and iterating on geometric designs to eliminate failure modes.
- Engineer novel mechanical subsystems specifically tailored for the handling, manipulation, and presentation of delicate electronic components.
- Physically install, commission, and debug robotic hardware installations, ensuring they meet operational specifications within the production environment.
- Liaise directly with external vendors and machine shops to coordinate the fabrication and procurement of critical mechanical components for machine builds.
- Troubleshoot and resolve electrical faults, including diagnosing motor drive failures and wiring cabinet issues, to minimize downtime.
- Partner closely with the build and assembly team to develop and enforce safe, efficient workflows for integrating mechanical sub-assemblies.
- Specify, source, and integrate sensor suites - including vision systems, force sensors, and proximity detectors - to monitor machine health, verify process quality, and detect anomalies in real-time.
Requirements
- Advanced proficiency in 3D CAD software, with a robust preference for Fusion 360 expertise, for creating production-ready models and drawings.
- Demonstrated experience designing precision-machined components and integrating them into larger, complex electromechanical sub-systems.
- A verifiable track record of physically building tangible systems, evidenced through professional engineering roles, academic capstone projects, or significant personal hardware endeavors.
- Comfort and effectiveness operating within a high-velocity startup environment where you are expected to autonomously drive projects from the design phase through to final deployment.
- Practical aptitude for hands-on assembly, alignment, and calibration of mechanical hardware using standard shop tools and metrology equipment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills necessary for documenting designs, writing test procedures, and coordinating with cross-functional stakeholders.

- Working familiarity with PLC architectures, specifically the Beckhoff TwinCAT ecosystem, for motion control and I/O integration.
- Hands-on experience operating, setting up,
and programming CNC milling machines or lathes for rapid prototyping and fixture creation.
- Prior background in designing fluid handling or chemical dispensing equipment relevant to solder paste, flux, or cleaning processes.
- Experience developing optical inspection systems, structured lighting, or machine vision integration for automated quality assurance.
- Broad manufacturing knowledge extending beyond CNC machining to include sheet metal fabrication design rules, injection molding DFM, and additive manufacturing processes.
- Previous experience mentoring junior engineers or technicians, fostering technical growth within a collaborative team setting.
