Urbanimals Pet Wahroonga (DCPETS PTY LTD) specialises in professional pet care services, providing quality dog care, training, socialisation, and enrichment programs in a secure and engaging environment. Our team is committed to maintaining high standards of animal welfare while delivering positive experiences for pets and their owners. Your expertise in dog handling and training will play a key role in supporting the wellbeing, behavioural development, and daily care of dogs entrusted to our facility.
Current Opening: This opportunity is a full-time DOG HANDLER / DOG TRAINER position (38 hours per week). Position Responsibilities and Tasks:
- Handle and care for dogs at Urbanimals Pet Zetland, ensuring their safety, wellbeing, and comfort during daily care, training, and socialisation activities.
- Train dogs using appropriate handling techniques to develop obedience, behaviour, and positive social interaction skills based on individual needs.
- Observe and assess dog behaviour, temperament, and responses to training activities, making adjustments to care and training approaches where required.
- Provide daily exercise, stimulation, and enrichment activities to support dogs’ physical health and behavioural development.
- Manage dogs during group activities, walks, and play sessions while maintaining safe interactions between animals.
- Maintain records of dog routines, training activities,
behavioural observations, and relevant care requirements for client communication and ongoing management.
- Identify and report changes in dogs’ health, behaviour, or condition and follow appropriate procedures to support animal welfare.
- Assist clients with information regarding dog handling, basic training progress, behavioural management, and ongoing care requirements.
- Maintain a clean, hygienic, and safe environment by cleaning dog areas, preparing equipment, and following animal care procedures.
- Support the daily operations of Urbanimals Pet Zetland by assisting with feeding routines, equipment maintenance, and the safe handling of dogs of various breeds and temperaments.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Relevant qualifications in animal care, dog training, or a related field.
- Minimum 1 year relevant experience working with dogs in a professional pet care or training environment.
- Knowledge of dog behaviour, handling techniques, training methods, and animal welfare practices.
- Experience managing dogs of different breeds, sizes, and temperaments.
- Ability to safely handle and supervise multiple dogs in a busy pet care environment.
- Strong observation skills with the ability to identify behavioural and health changes in animals.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with clients and team members.
- Reliable, punctual, and committed to maintaining high standards of animal care.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Passion for animal care and supporting positive outcomes for pets.
Salary: The role offers a remuneration package of $75,000 to $83,000 p.a. plus superannuation depending on the experience, skills, and qualifications of the successful candidate. You will be required to work a minimum of 38hrs per week however reasonable additional hours may be required from time to time.
