Guide Shop Operator – Mechanical Fitter (Day Shift) Temp to Perm

Location: Laverton, VIC
Industry: Steel Manufacturing
Shift: Monday to Friday, 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM
Pay Rate: $63.59/hr + 16.5% super + income protection

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Guide Shop Operator (Mechanical Fitter) to join the team at the Laverton facility on a temp-to-perm basis, with strong potential for permanent employment based on performance and business needs.

This role involves the maintenance, refurbishment, and preparation of equipment for the Bar Mill and Rod Mill. The ideal candidate will bring strong mechanical expertise and solid welding skills to support safe and efficient mill operations.

Key Responsibilities

- Perform maintenance, refurbishment, and reconditioning of Bar Mill and Rod Mill equipment
- Prepare and maintain guide equipment, mill rolls, and housing for mill use




- Assist in maintenance and changeover during downtime to minimise production disruptions
- Ensure equipment readiness and adherence to production and scheduling plans
- Follow safety procedures and company policies to maintain a safe work environment
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping in the work area
- Use welding skills (TIG, MIG, or ARC) for repairs and maintenance tasks

What We’re Looking For

- Mechanical Fitter trade qualifications
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
- Welding skills in TIG, MIG, or ARC
- Australian Citizen/Perm Resident

Licences:

- Forklift Licence (advantageous but not essential)
- Previous experience with mill stands, rolls, and guide equipment is ideal but not essential
- Ability to pass a pre-employment medical and drug & alcohol test
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- A commitment to safety and adherence to company policies
